Huntsmen in Bloodborne are human enemies hunting threats to Yharnam. Due to the infestation of the scourge, this is what the mob that has risen for the beast hunt have become. The fever-like urge to hunt remains, but they themselves have already been infested with the scourge of the beast. Unaware of this fact, they continue to search for prey to hunt and kill. Perhaps through their murky eyes, humans are seen as the true beasts.
Hunter Mob Information
This is possibly the most common mob you will encounter in the game, and they are greatly varied. The variations all share some likeness, but require attention in terms of which strategy to adopt. The huntsmen are mostly low to mid-level enemies; in large groups they can still be challenging, however, particularly the molotov and rifle variants.
Strategy
- The shield-bearing variant will be able to block one or two hits before becoming staggered and exposed.
- It is important to consider one's distance between oneself and the rifle variant: the closer the shooter, the more damage he inflicts.
- Pitchfork variants have long and deceiving range, it is recommended to sidestep when dodging their swing
- Due to being slow, these enemies can easily be parried.
- They will usually travel in horde with 1 or 2 rifle variant. It's recommended to take these out first before taking the rest out
Huntsman Information
These enemies come in several variations and can be found in many of the different locations in Bloodborne.

I wonder how effective these guys would actually be at hunting beasts. While any boss would utterly eviscerate them, we see a Wolf Beast over the bonfire in Central Yarnam, and I could imagine that the rifle-wielding ones could have been used as support (back when the Scourge wasn't affecting pretty much everyone in some way and most people were relatively sane). For example, the group of rifle hunters with their hunting dogs in between Grand Cathedral and Hemwick Charnel Lane would have pretty good chance at killing single beasts without casualties, due to being able to attack from range and from multiple angles while their dogs harrass and distract the beast.

YMMV, but I'm pretty sure if they see you but you're far enough that they can't attack, they'll rarely say "ew."

For some reason when they say, “ You plague ridden rat!” I think they’re saying, “You run for your gran!” Am I the only one who hears this?
- Anonymous
There's a particular hunter with a rifle in the area on the way to forbidden woods where the brainsucker is, and every time I've gone there he's said "Over here!" or something similar, and I have never heard any other hunter say that line.
There's idle 'searching' dialogue for them too when in the Cathedral Ward area (by the alleyway with the NPC houses). Don't know where else this is available. A few lines I managed to pick up:
"You foul beast... You can't hide for long!"
"He (or possibly we?) bares sickness, death!"
"Oh bugger, where'd the beast go?"
"Damn... Where you hiding?"
"(inaudible)... Drink up"

The one with the torch can kiss my ass. Oh I have this giant axe but really my most dangerous weapon is this torch I'll swing 40 times in a row.
I thought one of them said,
"You plebeian rat!!!"
Hard to tell in the thick of battle, really.

I can't make out "This town" for some reason, so I always thought the guy dies saying, "Beast! I'm finished..."

Not beast, nor kin. Oh well that just sums it up perfectly. Why don't you just add nor bird?

Some other dialogue includes:
(Idle) "Please god, help me, I must live."
(Idle) "We all know whose at fault... we know precisely who it is."

Im disapointed, i thought that since they all sound scared of me and all call me beast and say that i am cursed, maybe in the end of the game, you discover that you have becpme a beast yourself from all the blood you tasted and dont even realize it as you go around thinking you're doing good when in fact you're causing a lot of death and despair like with gasgogne's daughter

It's sorta sad to think about how they've all gone crazy. I mean, consider that you go to Yharnam solely for a cure to whatever disease you have. How many others attempted the same, only to be cut down by the insane mobs? Just some food for thought.

One of these morons said "Death to the minister!" to me but I was wearing Bone Ash armor, which isn't considered Church clothing. I guess the beastly plague has done something to their IQ.
- Anonymous
You should also mention that 3 of the variants, the axe, rifle and shotel variants are all infected church hunters. Just look at their garb, the axe one wears the complete black church set.

ive sat and listened to one of the beast cutter enemies trying to hit some beasts on a high ledge... all I've heard them say is : "You Rotten Beast!" or "Cursed beast!"the Boom Hammer variant only seems to say : "Blood NOW!"the Beasthunter Saif only variant says : "More blood!"this is all I've caught from both invading other players and observing their fights with the old hunters (I'm an honorable invader okay?)

When I was watching a video on Youtube for the first leg of the DLC, it sounded to me like the Beast Cutter-wielding hunters that attack you on the stairs outside the Nightmare Oedon Chapel were saying, "You f***ing beast!" I replayed that part half a dozen times b/c I wasn't sure, but they're definitely saying, "You something-that-starts-with-F beast!" Can anyone confirm/disprove? Maybe they're saying "foul" instead?

So, I thought the fact they scream at you is really neat so I thought I'd try to get as many of their lines as I can. Contribution and editing (should I mess up) is of course welcome.

I'll admit now, I'm the guy who kept removing that part and forgetting to comment, but it keeps getting put back as if it's a vital part of the page. So please explain to me why it's so important and I'll leave it alone, okay? Because right now the connection to Bloodborne is so tenuous that it just looks like someone's trying to turn this into a makeshift Brom Art Appreciation Society page. I'm not trying to start trouble, I just want to know why.
