Shadow of Yharnam is an enemy in Bloodborne. It is also a mandatory boss in the main game, found in the Forbidden Woods area. Shadows usually hang around in groups, and each type has a different ability just like the 3 bosses. They are tricky enemies, as they are quick witted and will offer a combination of attacks and counters.
They wield a large curved sword and the range of attacks is far-reaching. The pyromancer instead wields a mace.
Strategy
- Use the same strategy as given in the boss fight. It is advised to draw them out, perhaps with pebbles, and fight them one at a time.
- Alternatively, bait the Goliath Pig to crash them, and they will fight against each other.
Shadow of Yharnam Information
These enemies come in 3 variations, exactly like during the boss fight:
- A mace-wielding pyromancer, who will cast 3 fireballs.
- One that wields a candle in his right hand. He will blow on the candle for a fire-breath effect, is also a sword fighter.
- One just wields a sword. He can 2-hand his scimitar and start fighting like a samurai.

Notes & Trivia
- They resemble the Nazgul (Ringwraiths) from The Lord of the Rings.
- It is easy to mistake the weapon of the pyromancer for a tonitrus but it is a different, heavier weapon.
- Underneath their cloaks they look like a Watcher's Gravedigger but burned and blackened.
- They wear armored gloves.
- Those carrying a sword all carry that sword in their left hand.
- They may all very well be infested with snakes or other Vermin

I've been running into these a lot more frequently in chalice dungeons lately, but only ever in pitch-black rooms. Go figure.
Guys, I have a question. Can we actually get the long Sephiroth-like sword (large curved sword) from the Shadows Of Yharnam?

if you get a pig to charge you down where the lower level is it drops down you can then leave it to walk up the sewer whilst taking the other pig out at upper level, you drop down opposite side take the steps then run up to where the 4no' shadow dudes are. make a quick turn and drop down the steps to the left. Run to the end and wait at the corner. That pig decides to charge the 2no' shadow dudes here . They fight and take each other out.You step in and finish it easy way to pick up blood echoes.

Someone should add that they will become hostile to the pigs in Margo's Loft: Middle. (As someone else mentioned below.)

I accidentally found a glitch in this boss fight. If you exit the game right outside the Shadows of Yharnam boss room and then load your file again, no music will play during the boss fight. This can't be corrected, even if you die.
Can confirm they wander around Nightmare of Mensis in groups of two to four. Don't be fooled by the solitary mage-type, there's a katana wielder hiding nearby. Bait them one by one towards you with pebbles/knives or your gun. They carry the same movesets as the Shadow of Yharnam Boss-types.

Anyone else find it hilarious when the pigs and the shadows go ape***** on each other? Oh my god there might not be a single thing I love more in this game...
I don’t know if it was a graphical bug or what, but I just had one of the candle and sword ones spit blood instead of fire, no damage and it could’ve been me misinterpreting the embers when there was no gout of fire
