A Chalice Ritual is what the player must perform to create Chalice Dungeons. These rituals can be done by combining Ritual Materials with Chalices at one of the Ritual Altars in Hunter's Dream. There are a number of different Chalice Dungeons that can be created, depending on what type of Chalice is used in the Chalice Ritual.
The Ritual Altars basically function as slots, in which you can create and store Chalice Dungeons. Each altar can only hold one Chalice Dungeon at a time. There is no difference between the Rituals Altars, with exception of the Makeshift Altar which is for multiplayer (co-op or invasion) dungeons only.
Chalice Ritual Information
To create a Chalice Dungeon you need to go to one of the Ritual Altars in Hunter's Dream.
You will be presented with a menu giving the options of: Chalice Ritual, Chalice Dungeon Search, and Search by Chalice Glyph.
Selecting Chalice Ritual will present you with a menu prompting you to select a chalice. The middle menu on this screen will explaining the materials needed to create the dungeon associated with the highlighted chalice. Once you select a chalice the next menu will give you a more in depth version of the previous menu, and will give you the option to create the dungeon with additional challenges, such as stronger enemies, more traps, and PvP. Each of these additional challenges will cost more rite materials, shown on the right menu. Upon creating a chalice dungeon the materials listed will be consumed from your inventory. The chalice will remain in your inventory, and will not be lost.
Removing a chalice from an altar will delete the dungeon and all progress you had made in it.
Additional Rites
Additional Rites increase the difficulty of the game in various ways, as well as make higher-level item drops more common. In order to add an Additional Rite to your Chalice, the Ritual Material listed below must be added in varying quantities for different Chalice types. Additional Rites may not be available for every Chalice type.
If you have the Ritual Material required, and have selected to create a Chalice Dungeon that will allow Additional Rites of that type, you will see the option to add the additional 'Offering' as a list of checkboxes on the left-hand side of the screen, immediately under ' Conduct Ritual'.
- Fetid Offering is added using Sage's Wrist (Depth 1 - 3) - Sage's Hair (Depth 4 - 5)
- Rotted Offering is added using Inflicted Organ (Depth 1 - 3) - Yellow Backbone (Depth 4 - 5)
- Cursed Offering is added using Bastard of Loran
- Sinister Bell is added using Arcane Haze
Chalices
Chalices in Bloodborne are Items the player uses to create versions of Chalice Dungeons. The player will add the Materials required to the Chalice in the Hunter's Dream's Ritual Altars to create that Dungeon. Dungeon Depth indicates difficulty. The greater the Depth the greater the difficulty. Additional Rites can be used on creation, altering the dungeon's content. Root Chalices will create Dungeons with varying loot, bosses and layout where as non-Root Chalices will have the same parameters for all players.
