Weapons in Bloodborne are a very strategic and important choice for the player. Players must choose weapons that suit their style of play and preference. A player's character will be able to dedicate themselves to mastering one weapon, with its rich movesets that affect output damages per move and the Blood Gem Imprints that determine its extra bonuses.

You may equip two weapons in each hand and rotate between them. Trick Weapons will primarily be held in the right hand and Firearms will be held in the left. Trick Weapons have a regular and transformed mode which varies greatly depending on the weapon. Firearms serve different roles. Some fire high damaging single-target shells and others fire a spread of bullets that stun enemies in the area.

Weapon upgrades are done at the Workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You will need Blood Gems. You play the role of the Blacksmith to repair and fortify weapons, instead of an NPC blacksmith character.

Notes:

  • Tables are sortable, just click on the header!
  • For definitions of terms and images used in the weapons tables and pages, refer to the Table Key and Weapon Heading Key, at the bottom of the page.
  • See Weapon Moveset Damage Comparison for damage numbers of all weapons in each moveset!
  • See Weapons Gallery for Gifs of all weapons!
  • Mobile Users: You will not see location as it stretches the table and makes it less usable. Please see each page for location information.
  • There are secret sub-sets to weapons: "Righteous Weapons" and "Serrated Weapons".

All Bloodborne Weapons

Trick Weapons in Bloodborne are weapons wielded in the right hand. These weapons can be transformed into alternate forms and have different attacks in their transformed mode. There are 3 versions of each Trick Weapon: Normal, Uncanny, and Lost. The only known difference between each version is the location in which they are found and the Gem Imprints.

Note about Uncanny and Lost versions: The locations listed only provide a CHANCE for that version to drop, it does not produce one 100% of the time. However, the Chalices listed are in fact the ONLY locations known for finding them.

Rally = the amount of HP regained on an R1 attack immediately after taking damage

      If there's one thing I had to say I don't like about the absolute classic that is Bloodborne, it is the fact that we have stat requirements for weapons at all. Given that From already decided that equipment load would be obtrusive to the gameplay, what do stat requirements really add? They're all ridiculously low, too-as it stands, it just serves to make all bl4 runs as restrained as possible.

        I wish the frenzy crucifix was available to use. The same for the Pthumerian Elder and Descendant weapons.

          Matching the Boss X Best weapon against
          (without repeating the weapon)

          Saw Spear => Cleric Beast
          [Serrated, Fast, R1, R1, L1 GG easy]

          Threaded Cane => Father Gasgoine
          [Serrated, Fast, can parry, the long reach can cheese hiting him through the graves ]

          Saw Cleaver => Blood Starved Beast
          [Serrated, Fast, R1, R1, L1. GG easy]

          Church Pick => Vicar Amelia
          [serrated, high DPS and transformed thrust]

          Stake Driver => Witches of Hemwick
          [lots of opening for charge attack and high DPS]

          Hunter axe => Martyr Logarius
          [Logarius has no clear weakness but hunter axes has good damage and reach that helps]

          Beast Cutter => Dark beast Paar
          [serrated and long reach]

          Holy Moonlight Sword => Shadows of Yharnam
          [high damage output, moveset and 2 of them are weak to arcane]

          Boom Hammer => Amygdala
          [Good running R2 and charged attack to reach the head in both phases]

          Beast Claw => Rom
          [the beast status melts ROM HP]

          Rifle Spear => Celestial Emissary
          [Thrust attack, easy boss for an otherwise bellow average weapon]

          Burial Blade => Ebrietas
          [Good reach for hiting Ebrietas head]

          Tonitrus => One Reborn
          [One renborn is very weak against bolt and Tonitrus has very high DPS]

          Blades of Mercy => Micolash
          [The fast attack staggers him ]

          Chikage => Wet Nurse
          [Wet nurse is very weak to the rapid poison status and Chikage has a really good damage output]

          Logarius Wheel => Gherman
          [Gherman is weak to Arcane and The dash R1 of logarius wheel is very strong with proper gems]

          Kos Parasite => Moon presence
          [weak to arcane, the weapons is not that good but the boss neither ]

          Whirlgig saw => Ludwig

            To me, these are what sets the game apart from the Souls games and allow me to actually make different builds. In Souls, I always end up with a knight/warrior that carries around a sword and a parry tool of some kind. This is because I feel that I'm missing out whenever I don't.

            If we're being honest, most builds in those games remove features rather than add them. Casters generally don't parry much or engage in melee at all. High strength builds bonk two-handed, dexterity builds go one-handed. There usually isn't much of a moveset difference between the two regardles of whether or not you're two-handing. That is, unless you use swords and basic quality weapons. Which is boring in concept, but the only way of playing I find engaging in practice.

            This is where trick weapons come into play. Rather than two-handing, you now switch between two movesets fluidly, a simple change that adds so, so much depth, especially when combined with the removal of equip load. Instead of only focusing on one weapon with mostly same-y swings, you now have two with a total of four distinct movesets. If you make a high strength build, you don't just bonk. You have a mace that can transform into a saw for consistent stagger, and retract back into a bludgeon for combos at a moment's notice. Mages don't just shoot magic with their staff, they dodge and weave like everyone else, but they do it as a weird broccoli man wielding the best incarnation of the legendary MLGS. Rather than the standard fare of blue missiles, you get firearms like area denial flamethrowers or Hunter's Tools which are basically cursed eldritch grenades. And the Augur of Ebrietas, which allows you to retain access to parries to boot.

            Of course, that is not to say that you can't like the other games better. Far from it, I perfectly understand why you'd think so if you prefer real, albeit a little more shallow playstyle diversity over a sort of uniformity with different variations on the same idea. Because in Bloodborne, everyone is a Hunter. We're all basically playing the same kind of character, but it's explored with much greater depth than in Elden Ring or Souls. And as someone who prefers to play melee, that has actually allowed me to engage with the RPG elements more and make characters that fulfill different roles in the game world, though it's somewhat ironic to think about.

            In Souls, I always have to think hard about what to name my character because they're essentially just a vehicle for my playstyle. However, in Bloodborne I always instantly know what to call them since I know I'll enjoy playing as them no matter what weapon makes sense for them. That, to me, is why trick weapons work so extraordinarily well as both an action game as well as an RPG element.

                • Anonymous

                  I thought kirkhammer was overpowered but then I realized it had crappy sword damage good hammer damage but super slow attacks so I think that the saw cleaver is the ideal weapon because it has good damage and when it transforms it only loses a little speed but gains range

                    I know tier lists have been done to death, but I just started playing Bloodborne recently. So after hundreds of hours of gameplay, here is my tier list:

                    S-Tier: Church Pick, Holy Moonlight Sword, Ludwig's Holy Blade, Burial Blade, Saw Spear

                    A-Tier: Whirligig Saw, Rakuyo, Hunter Axe, Saw Cleaver, Beasthunter Saif

                    B-Tier: Amygdala Arm, Boom Hammer, Blade of Mercy, Chikage, Bloodletter, Beast Cutter

                    C-Tier: Threaded Cane, Rifle Spear, Simon's Bowblade, Kirkhammer, Beastclaw

                    D-Tier: Kos Parasite, Tonitrus, Stake Driver, Reiterpallasch, Logarius Wheel

                    • Anonymous

                      Why did my saw cleaver all of a sudden drop from 94atk to 67? I died fighting gascoine and upon respawn it lost points. It now takes triple the blows to kill an enemy.

                      • Anonymous

                        I love that you can get nearly every weapon in the game within 3-4 boss fights and a few NPCs, most of which can be pretty easily cheesed at low level. It makes setting up a character so much quicker and less of a focus in a run when you can have your build entirely set up before playing most of the game. Every other game locks so much stuff behind progression, DS3 is by far the worst especially when it comes to magic builds, learning that the hard way revisiting it recently.

                        • Anonymous

                          They're all amazingly designed and yet I still want more lol. I sincerely hope we get a sequel or spinoff at some point.

                            Game is awesome, weapons are awesome, I just don’t like how blood gems literally define your build. Way too much emphasis put on them. Maybe I’m just too much of a souls guy, but the weapons are awesome, it just makes your stats damn near worthless if you don’t have good gems that you have to sometimes spend hours farming. Makes me dread endgame whenever I get around to it.

                            • Anonymous

                              This right here is in my opinion how you do weapons. In Demon's Souls all the way through Elden Ring, there are just weapons that have no right existing. For example in DS3, the club and the reinforced club, there is quite literally and objectively no reason to use the normal club over the reinforced one, not even for off meta builds, the reinforced club does everything the normal club does but substantially better. Or the mace and the morning star in Elden Ring. There is absolutely no reason to use the mace over the morning star, the morning star has better scaling, does more damage and has bleed. There are just so many weapons that have no reason to even exist, not even for off meta builds. An example for a good off meta weapon would be the aquamarine dagger in DS3, there is a very good reason for why this weapon isn't meta, but its different, and therefore is actually worth being used.

                              Now here in Bloodborne, while there are still weapons that are similar, they all play somewhat differently. No weapon feels like its just a straight upgrade to another weapon. There aren't 2 hammers that explode, with one of them just having a bigger explosion and being therefore better. There is 1 exploding hammer and its worth being used. While there are 2 weapons that you could consider saw cleaver reskins, they still play differently enough for each of them to be worth being used. direct upgrades are never a good thing in a game in my opinion, each weapon that is in a game should have something that makes it worth being used. Otherwise its just content for the sake of content.

                              • Anonymous

                                Whoever complains about the quantity of weapons here needs to sever their finger from the r1 button and get a fkin reality check. To have an inmense amount of weapons only matters if ALL THOSE WEAPONS ARE VIABLE. in dark souls 3 there are more than 70 weapons and ppl only use 6 or 7. And from those 6 or 7, 4 of them are straight swords.

                                  Elden Ring made me truly appreciate Bloodborne's priority for quality over quantity when it came to weapon designs.

                                      Ranking the weapons I used in my first Bloodborne run

                                      1) Saw Cleaver: carried me through entire game, amazing damage with right damage and very reliable.

                                      2) Chikage: very good for my blood tinge build, very good damage transformed and untransformed

                                      3) Burial blade: Amazing, a shame i couldn't use it during my first playthrough but in ng+ this weapon is amazing

                                      4) Whirligig saw: I got this weapon early on and my god it deals so much damage, very good but got bad as i progress through the game.

                                      5) Burial blade/ Ludwig's Holy Blade: I didn't really use these weapons much but they were pretty useful for some occasions.

                                      This is just my opinion so don't take any offence to this post.

                                        Can we talk about how hilariously op you can get in this game? Imagine you're a meta build in DS3 and you suddenly come face-to-face with a 700 ar straight sword in the form of a heavy gemmed... well, anything heavy gemmed is nuts

                                          Kirkhammer is actually able to stunlock bloodletting beast if you can repeatedly stagger each limb in turn. Not sure about logarius wheel tho just cus I haven't tested it

                                            Rot in hell to Sony for making this game ps4 exclusive, shame how many people never get to experience this masterpiece

                                              I'm sick of people saying they're sick of people saying how little variety of weapons there is in Bloodborne. Are these ****ing idiots on drugs? Stop licking ass, you dimwits. Go back to DS 3, check again how many weapons they have, even with shared move sets, just the visual variety is impressive, and the amount of lore you can extract from all these weapons is even better. And they look SPECTACULAR. Hunter's Axe, one of the base weapons in Bloodborne, looks like ****, and there's no other axe like weapon. No. I have a **** stick I have to hold for hours and aparently should be grateful that I can wield it in so many ways.. **** stick is still a **** stick.

                                              Bloodborne lacks weapons. End of story. That each weapon can do more than weapons in DS is another matter, and shouldn't counter the fact that I'm sick of looking at the same crappy 3 weapons I actually barely like to use. Also, for the amount of gems and stones that are dropping otherwise, isn't this kind of stupid? Not even getting into the DLC only weapons.

                                              These sort of arguments is like the sort of arguments supporting those type of "open world" games where you can do so many things, but in the end all those things resort to fighting baddies, so in the end you're just really doing one thing. Same with Bloodborne, you can take a **** on those move sets and "uncanny" versions (which, btw, how patient must one be to get one of those. and by uncanny, there is NO difference expect for gem types)

                                              Oh, and by the way, same thing with the chalice labyrinths.What's the point of those? Gems? resources for deeper labyrinths? uncannies? gems? not interested. If these labirynths would be worth my time, is only to find NEW weapons. Other than that, **** Bloodborne. I'll try to finish it, just so I can say I've finished it, but compared to DS 3, this has NO VARIETY in anything. Hasn't even got proper magic, they just tried to hide it with about a dozen of laughable hunter tools, which is ****ing sad.

                                                Regarding the Hunter's Essence trophy that requires you to get every weapon... Has anyone got this trophy by having the variants rather than the regular versions? I think I might've passed up the chance to do Eileen's quest line since i have fought Rom and only encountered her once in central Yharnam and never saw her in cathedral ward. I would rather get the trophy through the chalice dungeons than to try and fight her in new game plus since chalice dungeons are required for platinum anyway. So if anyone has got this trophy through chalice dungeon variants, please let me know, thanks.

                                                  Can someone please tell me why if I have the 3 different types of weapon in my inventory I try to put some blood gems and those extra varieties of weapons don't appear?

                                                  Thank you

                                                    Is there any point to looking into the "damage VS beast" and "damage VS kin" thing? Litteraly all of the weapons have them both the same at 100 and i never found any gems that significanty changed them, at least not particularly good ones. I would love to do a specialized beasthunter or kinhunter build, but I'm not sure whether i even can :(.

                                                    • Anonymous

                                                      If somebody is about to complain on smaller amount of weapons in bloodborne than here is mine 7 hit combo.
                                                      1. Each weapon has more moves than DS weapon.
                                                      2. Each weapon has unique moveset (save perhaps for Saw cleaver and Saw spear which have them similar) unlike in DS where many weapons play identical/almost identical and have only 1 unique move or scalling property.
                                                      3. Game is devoided of embarassing scaling problems from DS series. I'm talking about things like Frayed blade's stance>light which doesnt scale with stats and so +5 Frayed blade deals the same damage at SL120 and 500 what means that at level 500 enemy can ignore it. I'm also talking about other stuff like DS2 bleed which deals 300 damage which is fine at level 150 but tiny at level 300.
                                                      4. Guns give us more tactical options than shields. Both in PvE and PvP.
                                                      5. There is no weight system so we can use 2 right and 2 left weapons.
                                                      6. Each weapon has 3 variants.
                                                      7. Unlike in DS there are usually many worthwhile ways to customize weapon.

                                                        Got a Question: Which of these weapons does look like a cross the most in your opinion? ATM I'm tending most towards Bloodletter.

                                                          I'm so sick of people saying this game lacks weapon variety. There are few weapons, but almost every weapon is completely unique in fighting style and movesets. In comparison to dark souls, which has like 14 different weapon types, this game offers nearly DOUBLE the weapon types. The diversity is insane! (For example longsword and short sword are the SAME WEAPON, while even two 1handed hammers like tonitrus and boom hammer are completely different)

                                                            Is there a list of how much stun different attacks do for each weapon?

                                                            For example Kirk hammer charged R2 has pretty massive stun and I’m not sure that any enemy has enough armor to tank that attack (the one reborn maybe).

                                                            But attacks from, say the blades of mercy have very little stun and can easily be armored through if the enemy has armor.

                                                            I’m curious for the sake of PvE. I thought I’d found a list of how much stun each weapon’s attacks deal i.e. saw clever R1 has something like normal stun but charged R2 has heavy stun or something. But I haven’t been able to find a list anywhere since.

                                                              Could someone help me I’m doing a str build and I’m using the stake driver but I need a back up weapon what would you recommend?

                                                                The reason there aren’t as many weapons is so painfully obvious. There are no weapon classes. No weapon in this game can be related, they’re all unique. And the fact that they can transform means that you’re actually wielding 2 weapons at the same time. Making this list twice as long. That the only distinction to be made between these weapons is if they are slow or fast, or scale with strength, skill or intelligence. That is how you’re gonna make your build. Which is fantastic in my opinion. Because there will always be a weapon that perfectly fits your playstyle. Fromsoftware took a huge gamble taking out weapon classes, and it paid of tremendously. I love Bloodborne. I love Fromsoftware. They’re my all-time favourite developers. The only thing that pisses me off now is the agonizing wait for more news on Elden Ring. I’m a pretty patien guy (even if I say so myself), but not hearing anything since the reveal is starting to get on my nerves. I DON’T WANT IT I NEED IT!!!!!

                                                                  I'm like 4 years too late for these things but 2016 people were complaining that there wasnt enough weapons, like way less than the darksouls games, what I dont get is that people cant accept that just cuz it's by the same company doesnt mean it needs to be a carbon copy, having less weapons is good for this, you're supposed to like your first weapon not want to discard it first chance you get, I like that theres not many choices, way less overwhelming than the souls games, and I mean, we got f*cking guns can we really complain?

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

( i guess the answer is the saw cleaver since it have a similar moveset to the saw spear, but i'd rather ask than go ahead and end up regreting my choise)

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • I scoured all three Bloodborne wikis as well as Reddit for glyphs and the details about those glyphs. Then I checked every single one of them to see if they were still active, some of them twice just to make sure they were really dead. This is what I came up with; the fastest paths to all the Runes and Lost / Uncanny weapons as well as all the gem farming glyphs that are still active.
