The Beast Claw is a Trick Weapon in Bloodborne. It is an equipment that is associated with The Blood Beast Covenant, and this trick weapon primarily focuses on the Strength stat. The Beast Claw is suitable for players wanting to play an aggressive playstyle.
Beast Claw In-Game Description
Beastly weapon wielded by Irreverent Izzy.
Crafted by chiseling the long bones of an undead darkbeast and fastening them to the weapon. The bones are still alive, and when unleashed, grant its wielder a spurt of beastly power.
As flesh is flayed and blood is sprayed, the beast within awakens, and in time, the wielder of this weapon surges with both strength and feverish reverie."
Beast Claw Mode Information
- In its regular form, this weapon functions as a basic claw, resembling an extended fist.
- In its transformed mode, it turns the Hunter's arms into a werewolf form.
- With the Beast's Embrace rune equipped, the weapon gains additional attacks and alters the Hunter's fighting style.
- For details on the changes, see the Beast's Embrace rune page.
Beast Claw Location
Normal Beast Claw
- Ailing Loran Chalice: Layer 2 treasure room. Room is on the right when exiting the elevator from the first layer boss fight, before the second layer lantern.
- Can be bought from Messengers for 34,000 Blood Echoes after acquisition.
- Can be bought from Messengers after cooperation with a player who has them. This only occurs in the Hunter's Dream before the fight with Gehrman, The First Hunter, or Moon Presence. It is not needed to complete any Chalice Dungeons. It is unknown if this is a glitch or intentional. This was patched by 1.07 or 1.08.

- Ailing Loran Root Chalice
- Glyphs: wxa3twxp (Layer 2)
- Ailing Loran Root Chalice
- Glyph: xmmfy2mk (Layer 1, first door on your left after spawning in the Chamber of the Seal, much easier to get for low level hunters)

Beast Claw Player Notes
- In its regular form, this weapon functions like a basic claw weapon.
- It’s effective for quick attacks when you’re not ready to use the Beasthood mode of the transformed claw.
- The weapon has a faster attack speed when transformed, so time your strikes to maximize damage.
- Don’t forget that you can also use a Firearm while in Beasthood mode.
- Rally potential is slightly higher in the regular form compared to the transformed mode.
- The attacks in this stance will create a perpetual Beast Blood Pellet effect.
- If you use an actual Beast Blood Pellet, it will not change anything in regards to the Beasthood generated by this weapon.
- It resets the Beasthood meter when the pill's effect wears off, which can potentially be harmful if you depend on the increased damage inflicted on opponents.
- Transforming back into the regular form will not reset the Beasthood meter.
- Switching to a different weapon will not reset the meter as well.
- Due to this fact, you can use the transformed claws to build up the Beasthood meter, then switch to a different weapon and enjoy its effects while it lasts.
- It’s effective for quick attacks when you’re not ready to use the Beasthood mode of the transformed claw.
- The fast attacks of this weapon make it ideal for poison blood gems.
- It can be buffed with Fire Paper, Bolt Paper, and the Empty Phantasm Shell.
- You can also modify its damage type with blood gems.
- However, because non-physical damage isn't affected by Beasthood, while still incurring the defense penalty, high arcane builds aren't very effective with this weapon.
- When facing mobs of enemies, use your superior attack speed to effectively hit and run.
- The Beast Claw does have some multi-attacks, but in general it's not a weapon suited for fighting mobs.
- Keep in mind it can kill enemies very quickly if you have high Beasthood.

Beast Claw Move Sets & Videos
Videos by partners only. Please respect our video guidelines.
Move | Damage Type & Modifier | Stamina | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
R1 Combo | 1.00x Beast Embrace: 1.00x, 1.00x, 1.00x, 1.10x |
15 | Low stamina per attack means this combo can be strung together for a long time. Also, while R1 combos generally have the player move forward while attacking, the rapid strikes of this weapon allow for faster and further travel, meaning the combo naturally pursues opponents. The combo alternates between attacks from right to left and left to right. The first is right to left in a downward diagonal, then mirrored from left to right, then right to left mostly horizontally around waist level, and then mirrored from left to right again, another right to left near mid-level but with a more noticeable upward drift, followed by a downward diagonal from left to right. The combo then repeats starting with the first waist-high horizontal slash from right to left. Be warned that the low weight of the weapon makes it difficult to stagger enemies. |
Quickstep R1 | 0.98x | 25 | All four directions result in a fast punch forward with the claw. The front step is the only attack that doesn't hop forward, and the punch is delivered faster compared to the other directions. |
Backstep R1 | 0.98x Beast Embrace: .95x |
25 | A nearly perfect horizontal slash across the body from right to left following a quick hop forward. |
Rolling R1 | 0.94x | 25 | After the roll completes, the weapon is thrust forward in a punching motion. |
Dash R1 | 1.00x | 20 (+run) | The dash is completed with a swipe from right to left at mid-level. The attack drifts upward slightly. |
R2 Attack | 1.28x Beast Embrace: 1.20x |
35 | A deliberate windup behind the hunter's back is then turned into a strong swipe from right to left across the body. |
Charged | 1.83x Beast Embrace: 1.40x |
50 | The charge extends the windup from the R2 and then delivers an uppercut. |
Backstep R2 | 1.23X Beast Embrace: 1.25x |
35 | A quick hop forward and the weapon is brought slightly overhead and then across the body from the right shoulder to the side of the left foot in a haymaker. |
Dash R2 | 1.28x | 40 (+run) | The claw is thrust forward in a punching motion at the end of the dash. |
Leap | 1.53x Beast Embrace: 1.30x |
50 | The claw is raised while the hunter is in the air. As the character lands, the claw is punched into the ground. |
Transform Attack | N/A | N/A | No transformation attack in this mode. |
Move | Damage Type & Modifier | Stamina | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
R1 Combo | 0.98x Beast Embrace: 1.00x, 1.00x, 1.00x, 1.05x, 1.10x |
14 ~ 20 | Please see the combo information from the regular move set. The combo is the same here, except all attacks that move from left to right are done with the left-hand claw, instead of the right-hand alternating. |
Quickstep R1 | 1.08x | 25 | |
Backstep R1 | 0.93x Beast Embrace: .95x+60 |
25 | After a hop forward, the left-hand claw is swept from left to right in a mostly horizontal swing. |
Rolling R1 | 0.88x | 25 | The hunter rises from the roll and delivers an uppercut with the right-hand claw. |
Dash | 0.93x Beast Embrace: 1.05x+60 |
20 (+run) | The hunter swings the right claw from right to left at chest height while exiting the dash. |
R2 Attack | 1.38x Beast Embrace: 1.20x, 1.30x, 1.40x |
50 | The left-hand claw is brought back, raised overhead, and brought down and across the body. |
Charged | 1.93x | 70 | The left-hand claw is brought further back before being raised. As the charge is about to complete, the hand stretches its fingers. The attack is slammed into the ground. |
Backstep R2 | 1.18x Beast Embrace: 1.20x |
50 | Both claws are brought outside the body and swept across to the front with a scissoring attack. |
Dash R2 | 1.13x Beast Embrace: 1.25x+60 |
40 (+run) | The right claw is swung upward in an uppercut much like the rolling R1. |
L2 | 1.23x | 40 | Like the backstep R2, both claws are brought out and then swept in. This animation is slightly different, making more of an "X" in front of the hunter. A second press of L2 will raise both claws overhead and then down and out behind the player. A third attack is possible where the claws are once again raised up and overhead (with a larger gap between the two hands than the previous attack). The claws are slammed into the ground rather than out and then behind the hunter. |
Leap | 1.43x Beast Embrace: 1.40x+60 |
50 | As the player lands, the claws start overhead and then sweep down and out like the second L2 attack. |
Transform Attack | 1.28x Beast Embrace: 1.25x |
25 (+x) | There is one attack animation. After completing the prior action, the claws are raised overhead similar to the second L2 attack. As the claws are brought down and out, the left-hand claw dissipates and is accompanied by a small shriek as it does. |

Beast Claw Trivia
- When this weapon is equipped, your gloves will be replaced by two bone gauntlets. This can allow for the lost art of rapid glove changing if you switch your weapons really fast.
- You can charge the Beasthood meter on the first windows (Gilbert) of Central Yharnam
- In the past, there was a rare glitch that allowed a player to obtain this weapon without finding it in the Chalice Dungeons.
- It has since been patched, although it isn't quite known when it was successfully patched.
- Tested in PvP with naked characters at BL 120 with a maxed weapon

is there any way to get this without using ps+? sony are being absolute (expletive)s lately and I don't want to give them more of my money than I already have,

Is this weapon the best? No, but is it fun to shred through swarms of enemies like a maniac? Yes

i decided to do a beast playthrough recently, coz i wanted to go to ng+6 for the first time and figured beast blood is great at high ng and permanently having the effect without needing to buy a bunch of pellets sounded great. i do enjoy this weapon but there's one really glaring issue that (in pve) makes it completely irrelevant. beast blood is really op so obviously a weapon with permanent beast blood had to be balanced accordingly, so they made it slower and weaker than other weapons. that's all fine, but the issue is how beasthood interacts with insight, because in order to make proper use of beast blood you need to keep your insight low. that doesn't seem all that relevant, but what if i remind you that basically the only useful item you can stock up on from the insight shop is... beast blood pellets. so my beast claw run boiled down to me constantly buying pellets i had no use for or papers that added no significant damage, and using a weapon with slower attacks and lower ar than my spare saw cleaver (even though my cleaver literally just used the spare gems i had, i didnt farm extra) which i was pretty much forced to use on any fast boss with poise. i'd like to repeat that i love this weapon, both movesets are fun, the transformation is cool, stunlocking enemies without poise is very convenient for micolash, and running around with permanent beast blood does feel satisfying, but you really only need the damage boost against bosses and in that case it's just worse than any other physical weapon in every way

I use it because I'm a furry!

Fastest path to this weapon:
Cheese Gasciogne on the stairs, rush to BSB and abuse cocktails/firepaper with the Saw Cleaver.
First chalice dungeon, kill second boss (watchers).
Glyph c6anzq4k, first bonus rooms, buy all the sinister chalices from the fountain.
Glyph fearrfan has the beast claw in the first bonus rooms.

use glyph c76p8sbe beat the first boss then go to the room on the right and up the ladder. free regular beast claw!

When transforming it seems to make the same screech as the cleric beast which could also be the reason for one arm being larger than the other when transformed which seems to hint at this being from a cleric beast despite the description, or I'm just stupid.

why does this have to be the only weapon in the game that you can ONLY get through the chalice dungeons

is the beast embrace rune required? would you describe it as a strict upgrade or an alternative moveset?
- Anonymous
It's obnoxiously loud, short range, and... niche. It can reeeeeally shine in the right hands, but I mean it will shine in OOOOONLY the right hands. There isn't too big of an audience for this little guy, but it's fun even if you suck. Still wouldn't main it though.
9-15/20 points.

Want a really cool beast claw build that uses beast's embrace path rune and +50 beast rune that gives a perfect 350 beasthood and looks super badass? Then you've come to the right place. First, acquire the stupidly hard to get weapon from the chalice dungeon, or, to make things way easier, use the Zullie the Witch original chalice glyph "fearrfan" I believe it is, and retrieve the uncanny beast claw from within. By the way, that chalice is a false depth, meaning you can get it as soon as you kill the blood starved beast in old yharnam! However, the attire I am currently using involves one peice of the bone ash set, so if you base it entirely off of this, you will have to delve deeper then just that one dungeon. Alright, time for stats. 50 strength, at least 25 skill, at least 20 endurance, and as much vitality as you are comfortable with dumping points into. I got my vitality to 40, and that seems to be good to me, but I'm sure you could be fine with less as long as you can dodge attack well. If you are going super high level, you may aswell get 15 arcane so you can use the phantasm shell for a bonus 80 flat arcane damage. As for the super cool clothes, wear the ashen hunter head peice and gloves for more beasthood. With the embrace rune they will both be invisible, so don't worry about them ruining the cool werewolf look. Then, channel your inner wolverine and rip off you shirt with pure badassitude alone. And then equip the bone ash leggings for an unexpectedly cool look that kind of reminds me of The Dishwasher, from the SKA Studios game, "The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai", and the second installment, "The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile". Both astoundingly good games indeed. If you don't know what they are, then think about devil may cry. Now make it a side scroller with way more blood and violence, aswell as vampires, zombies, and a flaming ball of magma that was once the earth, (Did I mention that Vampire Smile takes place on the moon?) And that is The Dishwasher. I pretty much explained the premise of Vampire Smile just now, so go play it so you can find out the rest! And at last... You have a super cool build that should last you multiple, if not infinite new games worth of fun! Now, enjoy killing Laurence, because you have to kill him to get the embrace rune, and he is easily the hardest boss I've ever fought. It took me probably 40 tries to kill him, and that was with the guild master of the league there as a decoy/meat shield. Well, have fun! PS- Going through multiple new game+ you can easily beef up your strength and skill far past just 50 each. I would recommend starting by getting strength to 50, and then worrying about the skill later, since the weapon scales mostly with strength.

This thing transformed combined with the "Beast's Embrace" is soooo much fun, and a LOT stronger than most people here give it credit for. To me the Orphan of Kos was by far the hardest of any soulsborne bosses and at NG+ with 60/SKL and 60/STR i just demolished him to such an extent that i almost killed him before his 2nd phase(he had around 1000 HP left before entering 2nd phase).
- Anonymous
Favorite weapon by far. What it lacks in damage it makes up for in speed and low stamina usage. With the Beast's Embrace rune it has an awesome moveset too. So fun. Also, the L2 with the Beast's Embrace rune doesn't do a claw attack. It's a beast's roar attack.
- Anonymous
Whatever idiot put that this thing isn’t good at killing groups of enemies has never used it.
- Anonymous
If you get a set of uncanny claws from the false depth chalices, can you buy the regular ones?
- Anonymous
Convert it to fire, pump arc to 30 min and enjoy the Beast Blood Pellet effect. Easy for the melting of beast bosses!
- Anonymous
Easily my favorite weapon in the game, but it's a shame it takes so long to get. Doesn't help that the Beast's Embrace rune, which definitely enhances the look and feel of the Beast Claws, is really difficult to get before endgame (unless you feel like facing Lawrence with midgame stats and a +6 weapon). More of a NG+ weapon, which can be a bit of a letdown. Usually I keep a backup save available with online storage so I can start fresh with this guy on NG+ any time I want. Still, for anyone who hasn't tried the Beast Claws yet, you're missing out. I can't overstate how fun this thing is to use.
- Anonymous
Certainly not the best or most op weapon out there, but with the Beast's Embrace it's hella fun and fighting some bosses, like Ludwig and OoK, feels so satisfying - just two beasts tearing into each other. And last but not least, have as much stamina as possible.

So how good of an idea is it to make a quality build with max beasthood meter , where i can build up beasthood with this while doing good damage, then swap to a LHB to get massive damage output that can last minutes
- Anonymous
God, this thing is useless.
Get it for the trophy. Try it out.
Then forget about it.
2/10.

I just can't chose the build for these claws. Someone says that this weapon perform better with a quality build, other says pure STR build. Any suggestions?
- Anonymous
Too bad I’m required to go through those stupid Chalice Dungeons just to grab this! Y’know, if From wasn’t such a douche at times, they could make this weapon easily accessible AFTER fighting Laurence; after all, this weapon IS associated with the Blood Beast Covenant! This game can go full retard at times; I love it, don’t get me wrong, but THIS is where I often draw the line.
- Anonymous
attacking the window at the central yharnam with these fills the beast bar, so you can max it out and go on a rampage throughout all of yharnam while maintaining it at full ;)

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but beast's embrace jump or leap attack can give you a backstab/back visceral if you land a hit with it from behind

Welcome to the infinate + 70% damage weapon, Destroyer of slow bosses, no joke this weapon is basically summed up as: do damage to do more damge and make sure you never get hit once lest you die (Just run it with low vit with high end, str and skill)

Unlock the root chalice from the watcher's boss in pthumeru chalice, the one you get from blood starved. Then search for chalice glyph: fearrfan There is an uncanny beast claw in a coffin in the first bonus area you find, take note this dungeon is depth 5 difficulty. It WILL be a suicide run. Might take you a couple tries. You can get a lot of weapons like this early on. Google "Save edited chalice dungeons".

Best Pve weapon, expecially strong against bosses with multiple hitboxes (like the one reborn). Decent in Pvp...
- Anonymous
The most under-rated weapon in the whole game. A good player will annihilate anything with these. Plus, they're buffable.
- Anonymous
With beasts embrace rune, the unique jump attack actually staggers an enemy as If a charged strong attack was used, letting a visceral attack be used. Since theres no normal charged strong attack with the transformed weapon with the rune equipped this is pretty useful

So little help for people wanting to do a build with this weapon. Do a quality build and rock the Ludwigs until you get the actual Beast Claws, and start on the Military Veteran origin, at 40 vit/30 end/ and 50 str/skill, it doesnt put you at 150 if your doing a coop build, so you can also have 23 arcane so you can use the phantasm shell cause lets face it, you dont wanna parry, you just wanna rip stuff apart.+ its pretty much an infinite buff so why not.

When did they change it to only being attainable from a chalice dungeon? I just started replaying this and I'm positive that on my first playthrough...granted it was like the year or year after it came out....I got it as a drop from a hunter npc enemy wielding this weapon in the Yahar'gul unseen village.

Gotta try and tear apart laurence with this. That boss use to one shot players, so dont ever mind about beasthood s drawback. Just eat him alive.

you have to kill a f u c k i n g amydala to get a CHANCE to find it,yeah no

This weapons is pretty fun to play with- especially with the Beast's Embrace rune- due to the high risk, high reward aspect of the Beasthood stat. It's not a powerful weapon and you can definitely get higher damage with a beast blood pellet with certain weapons, but the permanent aspect definitely lends toward a frenetic battle against one or more enemies. This weapon requires patience to use, both insofar as having to build up beasthood to get the extra damage, and the fact that if you're not careful with your stamina, you can easily get killed by relatively weak mobs; however, the extra damage you can accumulate with careful use of the weapon can make several boss fights ridiculously easy.

I absolutely HATE that you have to dungeon dive to find this weapon, i hate any dungeon exclusive weapons. Like hiding alternate forms in the dungeon sure but every single form? I *****ing hate the dungeons, i can clear them (i have like 4 NG+10 characters) but i *****ing hate doing them, they are so boring and repetitive its so stupid

Is this the kind of weapon that can be buffed with a "magic" item available in the game, or is it impossible ? Because if it is... it can be very class to walk around with both arms in fire... or covered in lightning ! (* o * )

If I transform the weapon back to its one-hand form, does the beasthood bar instantly disappear, or simply stop increasing from attacks?

It seems statisticaly weak in comparrison with other weapons. The only other low reach high att speed weapon, blade of mercy, has an S-scalling in skill, and an initial arcane damage with a B scalling. I think that this one needs to do extra bolt damage in transformation mode, because of the fact that you turn your hand into a darkbeast claw. And maybe even then a buff to the arcane scalling, to C or whatever. I have not personally tried this weapon cause it looks statistically weaker then other weapons. Maybe im wrong ;).

With my beasthood at 546 and my beasthood bar filled I received a damage bonus (on physical attacks only) of 70% for over 40 seconds. Shortly after that it drops to a 60% bonus and so on. I find the L2 fills my bar much better than R2 but it may be the enemies I'm testing it out on. Also attacking an enemy while in its dying animation yields beasthood bar progress. I stack my kirkhammer with physical attack blood gems then switch to it after filling my beasthood bar with my claws. After I cast an arcane buff on my kirkhammer I can R2 charge the hammer for 1400+ damage. I haven't seen much talk about the damage bonus from beasthood so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in.
