Amygdalan Arm is a Trick Weapon in Bloodborne. It was added with The Old Hunters DLC. There are 3 versions of this weapon: Normal, Uncanny and Lost. The only known differences being the Gem Imprints and the locations in which they are found.

Amygdalan Arm Description

"The arm of a small Amygdala Great One.
Strictly speaking, the Amygdalan Arm is no trick weapon of any sort, but certain madmen wield them like clubs.
Starts as a large, tough blunt weapon formed of bone, but when extended, the hand quivers as if it were still alive.

Amygdalan Arm Information

  • Transforms from a club to a scythe-like arm with deceptively long reach and a whip-like, fluid motion.
  • Requires 16 Blood Stone Shards, 16 Twin Blood Shards, 16 Chunks and 1 Blood Rock
and 4240 Blood Echoes to fully upgrade.
  • To perform a Leap Attack, tap forward on the Left Stick as you press R2.
  • To perform a Transformation Attack, press L1 while performing another attack or dodge.
  • Hold R2 after the initial charge attack to initiate another 2 hits.
  • Note that whenever you perform a strong attack, just wait a bit and the arm will automatically land an extra swing (costs stamina).
  • It will land two extra swings if you charge it all the way, then wait. Both deal high damage and have good reach.
  • Transformation attack from scythe to mace deals high blunt damage.

Location

Normal

  • The Hunter's Nightmare, cave at the end of the blood river to the right after getting out of the building that used to be the shortcut to the Cleric Beast in the main game. Gatling Gun Hunter dropping the Gatling Gun and a Blood-Starved Beast can be also found here. Arm is near the Blood-Starved Beast at the end of the cave.

Uncanny Amygdalan Arm

  • If you have the normal version: Create Glyph 8i29rqz3 (Pthumeru Labyrinth) and buy from Bath Messengers up a ladder from the main room for 66,000 Blood Echoes.

Lost Amygdalan Arm

  • If you have the normal version: Create Glyph 8i29rqz3 (Pthumeru Labyrinth) and buy from Bath Messengers up a ladder from the main room for 66,000 Blood Echoes.

Player Notes

  • The normal mode uses heavy smashing attacks, suggesting that it is primarily using Blunt damage.
    • Can stunlock most enemies by simply spamming R1
  • The trick mode makes the arm's bladed extension whip around with the user's attacks, giving the weapon more range as well as multi-hit potential (needs confirmation). < it does curl at the end
  • The tricked R2 attacks, both charged and regular ones, will make the bladed tendril "come alive", slashing around.
    • When using a regular R2, make sure to not move (turn, attack, roll etc.) and once your character extends the weapon the tendril will slash slightly to the left and then right of the weapon.
    • Charging the R2 and leaving it slammed down will increase the range and force at which the bladed tendril slashes.
    • Moving, rolling or initiating a different attack will interrupt this special move.
    • Each slash is a separate attack, so you can potentially get 3 hits out of a single R2. Can be achieved on larger foes, though considering how long all of those hits take to be executed, expect to be hit back. Usually the initial slam and one slash is still good damage and won't leave you open for too long.
  • Using the trick mode of this weapon in PvP is risky, as the additional slashing motions that come with the R2 attacks can leave you wide open if they miss.
    • It has a very deceiving range though, and the slashes that come from the R2 can be fairly unpredictable for the enemy
  • The Arcane damage and scaling on the weapon is negligible, it can basically be considered a Strength weapon
  • Arcane attack only triggers when the weapon is transformed, mace version is pure strength.
  • Good against crowds, can keep enemies away with its reach if transformed.

Movesets & Videos

Regular Moveset
Move Damage Type & Modifier Stamina Effect
R1 Combo 1.00x, 1.00x, 1.10x, 1.20x ?? This combo consists of four ground-slams: for the first two, the player lifts the weapon over their right shoulder and quickly brings it down. The third hit is executed in a similar manner, but with the weapon lifted over the left shoulder instead. The final hit is performed by the player taking a step forward with their left foot, then spinning clockwise on the left heel while bringing the weapon over the left shoulder and downwards to the right.
Backstep R1 .95x ?? Thrusts the arm straight out in a jab.
Dodge R1 ?? ~ ?? ?? ~ ?? Following the roll, performs a downward ground-slam.
Dash R1 1.10x ?? (+run) Sweeps a horizontal arc from back to front without the weapon being lifted above the head.
R2 Attack 1.30x ?? The weapon is lifted over and behind the head while parallel to the ground, then swept in a wide horizontal arc from right to left.
Charged R2 1.80x, 1.80x ?? Same windup as the normal R2, but the weapon is held behind the player as they arch their back, which is followed by a heavy overhead slam. A follow up R2 will result in a heavy upward slam.
Backstep 1.35x ?? Similar thrusting jab to the backstep R1 but with a longer windup.
Dodge R2 ?? ?? After the roll, the weapon is lifted over and behind the head while parallel to the ground, then swept in a wide horizontal arc from right to left.
Dash R2 1.40x ?? The weapon is brought down and across the body by the left foot, and then backhand slashed upwards and diagonally over the right shoulder, causing the player to pivot to the right as the weapon finishes behind the player and on the ground.
Leap 1.40x ?? (+run) Much like the first attack of the R1 combo, the weapon is raised above the right shoulder and swung downwards
Transform Attack 1.15x ?? (+x) The weapon is transformed as a horizontal slash is readied, striking foes with a slashing extended Amygdala Arm.

Move Damage Type & Modifier Stamina Effect
R1 Combo .95x, 1.00x, 1.05x, 1.15x ?? This is a varied combo which begins with two horizontal sweeps from right to left, followed by a backhand diagonal left to right upwards slash, then a forward right to left diagonal slash, then a backhand horizontal sweep left to right, and finishes with a left to right upwards slash.
Backstep R1 .90x   The weapon slashes in a horizontal sweep from right to left.
Dodge R1 ?? ~ ?? ?? ~ ?? After the roll, the weapon slashes in a horizontal sweep from left to right, finishing behind the player.
Dash R1 1.10x ?? (+run) Diagonal overhead slash from right to left.
R2 Attack 1.20x+80 ?? Thrusts the weapon out, where the appendage rotates up and then slashes back.
Charged R2 1.70x+80+85 ?? Slams the weapon down into the ground, followed by the weapon's appendage slashing out and to the side.
Backstep R2 1.20x ?? Thrusts the weapon straight up where the appendage rotates slightly but does not complete the attack of the normal R2.
Dodge R2 ?? ?? Performs the same attack of the R2 but with a windup animation in the arm's joints
Dash R2 1.30x ?? (+run) Performs a 360 horizontal sweep attack finishing from the left to right
Leap 1.40x ?? Similar to the regular leap, the weapon is raised above the shoulder and slashed downward.
Transform Attack 1.50x (+x) The Hunter spins, the weapon transforms as he spins and it comes down with a heavy mace-form downward slam

Trivia

  • The Amygdalan Arm is a Trick Weapon in name only, considering that it is an arm obtained from Amygdala.
  • The arm is remarkably small, as even the Lesser Amygdalae are huge. Perhaps it came from a newborn Amygdala.
  • The arm could be the inspiration behind the Burial Blade.

Love this weapon. Something I don’t see mentioned much is on the 3rd or 4th hit in the transformed r1 combo it also hits behind you. And the phantom range is unreal. Almost never get staggered while transformed and has awesome regain. Doesn’t bounce off walls. All this on top of everything else mentioned. This thing is good in almost any situation and the damage is honestly really good!

80arc damage with C scaling is not negligible. It works quite well on str/arc builds with 50/30 or even 40/40 if you want to use tools also. For pure strength there are just better options, this is a split weapon through and through.

The scythe to club transforming attack is amazing. Cool animation, very high damage, and it will flatten most small and medium sized enemies to the ground. Probably one of the better transform attacks in the game overall.

Never really used this on any of my runs up to this point. I recall trying it out for a bit on one of my first runs on build that (in retrospect) clearly didn't fit this weapon, as I then surmised that this is a low tier weapon, but returning now and giving this another spin on a much more suitable build, and holy **** this thing is amazing. The club-state is absolutely amazing with its ability to more or less stunlock a lot of smaller foes (and this monster even killed winter lantern with 3 whacks without even giving it a chance to attack) and the whip/trick-state might be the best crowd control weapon in the entire game, even surpassing Burial Blade's scythe-form. Amazing weapon, definitely don't be a dum dum like me, and give this thing a fair shot.

This definitely deals it's listed arcane damage in club form, tested on slimes in Ailing Loran Root chalice (absurd physical defenses & weak to elements). With pure physical gems in both weapons (no +flat arcane or +% arcane), hunter axe R1 hits for 67. Amygdalan club R1 is doing ~160, over 300 with charged R2. Transformed whip R1 around 150. The arm/axe do roughly the same damage to every other enemy in the area, with the axe generally having an edge because of 27 more AR and/or non-split damage.

I never gave it much thought until returning to Bloodborne recently -- this game really favors Strength builds, huh? Strength (and hybrid) builds have the most options available, at least.

What gems work well with this? Would Str scaling on it work or are there diminishing returns? It's done well enough with basic +phys gems for me, but I dunno what to aim for once I start delving into deep chalices

                  • Anonymous

I tried this on a whim and it performed so well that I made it my main weapon. It's moveset is fantastic and varied, especially with the running r1s and r2s. The second hit follow ups on the transformed r2s just make me love this weapon even more. Is anything particularly weak to blunt damage? No. Can it be buffed? No, but you won't find a better bonking stick in the game.

Does this weapon even fit with an Arcane Build if you are not going to Level 323472893747854 ?
I mean, you should definitely have 50 strength for the weapon, that is to much for a arcane build, isnt it ? And the Arcane Damage only in the transformed mode is not that high to begin with.
How should i operate fellow Hoonters ?

                      • Anonymous

One of the few weapons that scales best with strength all the way to 50, then 25 arcane>25 skill>50 arcane. I think the awkward scaling is why you see it so rarely... being a weird chicken wing in a game with much cooler weapons probably doesn't help lol

I like the giant club in souls games, but i thought i would not see something like it in bloodbor e, but I was wrong

It's quite possibly the funniest weapon in the game... well, besides the wheel. This little arm, however morbid, has a personality in transformed mode. In untransformed you bash it on the ground aimlessly like a caveman which is also very funny. Is it good thou? No. Not really. There's plenty of weapons that do what it's doing, but better and more efficiently. But what don't these 'better' versions not have? Laugh factor. Which may or may not be a dealbreaker for me.

I was underwhelmed at first but ive come to love this weapon. You can stunlock most enemies, the transformed whip has long range and can go through walls, and its a 1 handed strength weapon so you can still parry while doing good damage

                              • Anonymous

Something worth noting is that like the Kos Parasite's tentacle attacks, this weapon doesn't ricochet off of walls when you hit them, making it possible to use the transformed r1 attack, the horizontal sweep attack, in a thin corridor
As well as any other spot where you might bang off the wall if you swing too wide

                                • Anonymous

Love all the weapons that have two or more hits with charged r2s, but they don't send the enemy flying. Doing both of them on a backstab and then a visceral - humangous damage!! The same can be at least with Simon's bowblade and the church pick.

Is it possible this was a case of translation error since this is clearly a finger? it has the long claw and everything.

"The arm of a small Amygdala Great One" is the first line of the description, so basically some hunter ripped that from a baby amygdala but great ones can't have babys. I'm so confused

                                      • Anonymous

It’s the arm of the Amygdala just above the cave beside the turrets but the weapon is tiny because it has to fit for our character, just like the Holy Moonlight Sword. It’s just one of those times the developers ask players to suspend their disbelief so the gameplay can work

this weapon is sucks,, have a very bad arcane scaling and arcane dmg,, fk u why its not an quality weapon then

It's VERY effective against bloodsuckers, esp. if you sneak up behind them. Flatten them out with a fully charged L2 (with the +2 swings) and you should have enough time to charge up another L2 before they're ready to attack you.

I call it my bloodlicker-licker. Licks bloodlickers good.

I wonder, can yharnamites see this weapon? They're devolving to beasts which means they clearly don't have the insight to see the amygdalae, so when you fight them with this thing do they only see you slaughtering their posse with nothing but air?

                                              • Anonymous

This weapon is surprisingly powerful in both forms on a 50str/25arc build. I rarely get parried in pvp because it is so uncommon and the range is long enough to keep pressure on. The club mode works for a semi-high dps spam on bosses, but its too short for regular mobbing.

                                                • Anonymous

There's something extremely satisfying about smashing enemies with this thing... maybe I am a madman, heh

                                                  • Anonymous

It's not alive. The muscles in it just react because of the nerf stimulation through the sudden movement of the weapon. It's a reflex. Same thing happens when the doctor hits us with the little hammer at the knee and we kick in response unwillingly.

                                                    • Anonymous

Because it has arcane damage natively, it cannot be buffed with fire paper, bolt paper, or the empty phantasm shell.

                                                      • Anonymous

If you look closely, it appears that the "club" part of the weapon is formed from the Amygdala's spine and a sort of carapace, with the pelvis acting as the pommel. The chunky top portion of the weapon has a few holes on its sides, indicating where more arms would have been attached. The shape of the club, excluding the arm, closely resembles the hunched brain-like statues and lanterns that appear throughout the Healing Church, as well as the statues that line the path to Byrgenwerth. Meanwhile, the claw at the end of its arm reminds of the sickle-like limbs of Rom's children. Who would have thought that a baby would make such a great weapon?

Uhm... maybe late to the party but did anyone notice this basically doubles your visceral attack power with it out? and that it stacks with Clawmark runes?

regardless of mode, even. as long as it is your active weapon. Notice while farming blood vials and bullets from the 2 executioners near the Nightmare Church lantern. My fully upgraded Burial Blade may have done more raw damage, but it only did about 1000 or so VA damage. equipped the Arm and suddenly doing 2000ish.

Later played the Hintertombs and fought the BSB at the end, parried and use VA while having the Arm out this time with the two Clawmark runes I have, and did nearly 4000 damage with a VA

Now that I think about it, isn't the Amygdalan Arm placed directly below the fossilized Amygdala you find on the bridge after going through the tunnel to the right of the Nightmare Grand Cathedral? Not that I think it belongs to it, but maybe this implies that a dead Amygdala sort of acts like a phoenix, reviving itself as a newborn. Maybe this could be true of other Great Ones, too.

The other possibility is that Amygdalae form from the mold that sprouts from coldblood, or perhaps it was once a creature that ingested this blood. I wonder if the writers felt partially inspired by Terence McKenna's theory that psychedelic mushrooms assisted in the evolution of the human brain, granting us abstract thought.

This weapon reminds me of the Gargoyle Tail Axe, it's a qwuirky and fun weapon to use but actually works too, I finally found a replacer for my stupid beginner weapons.

                                                                • Anonymous

What a fantastic weapon, doesn't get enough credit. First off it really does stunlock most PvE enemies in club mode with R1 spam. But it's the other moves that compliment it so much. Yes the transformed mode has unbelievable range but backstep to R2 is a great forward stabbing motion, almost like a spear stab, good for finishing something off. The running R2 in club mode is an extremely quick uppercut swing with stagger. Transformed running R2 is a 360 spinning motion. The standing R2 tap while transformed has just as much use as the awesome R2 charge and the R1, L1 from club mode that is probably the most reliable switch hit in the game.

                                                                  • Anonymous

I think mine is broken.i used a charged 2attack in the transformed mode, and it worked kinda. But now its stuck extended and wont come back. I tried resetting the game, and even switching weapons but when i re equipt it and transform it it gets stuck after te first attact and stays that way. Ive invested a lot of bloodstones into this weapon so i would really hate to end up selling it. Any ideas?

                                                                    • Ok so the funniest thing happened to me, not sure if this is a bug or not.

I was on Hunter's Nightmare on the Old Hunter's DLC, going through the dark cave where the Amygdalan Arm supposed to be, fought the hunter with the gatling gun inside the cave, beat him and proceed to accidentaly agrroed the BSB guarding the Amygdalan Arm.

Since i dont have enough blood vial i decided to just back away but i noticed that the BSB slowly catching up to me and it followed me until the blood river area, it even fought with every remaining bloodsucking beast on that area that i didnt kill and they did a good job shaving the BSB's HP to about 2/5

After all that it followed me again, walking slowly, as i backed away also slowly, getting past Simon the NPC, and finally through the shortcut to the Cathedral Lamp which couldnt fit the BSB, so i used multiple charged attack with my Ludwig's Holy Blade and killed it in safety. EZ!

                                                                      • Anonymous

So I went to dungeon 8i29rqz3, and instead of there being the bath messengers, patches was there instead. It would seem that once you befriend patches he replaces the bath messengers in dungeons, and his items don't cost anymore than buying it from the dungeon messengers.

                                                                        • Anonymous

In the trick form, after doing the charged R2 attack if you keep holding R2 you do an extra 2 slashes at the fully extended range, just like the standard R2 attack, great for ranged dps and it can hit enemies as their standing

                                                                          • Anonymous

I'm curious to see if this will fare better for a str build or an arc build. I'm at 45 for both stats and after trying out arc flat gems on it and then str gems it seems a little more powerful with the str gems. Makes me kind of sad, I was hoping this thing would be better with an arc specialization. There might be something I'm missing though. The C scaling in arc is pretty lame imo

                                                                            • Anonymous

I'm thinking since the R2 bonus slashes count as separate attacks, that it might be able to stack multiple 'hits' of rapid poison, can anyone confirm?

                                                                              • Anonymous

This enemy calls forgotten for a reason, i mean we get this weapon and moonlight sword in this dlc. They a little similiar in scaling and use, so moonlight obviously superior to arm, sadly. I don`t think lots of people will use that.

                                                                                • Anonymous

The first form is just a boring old club, but the trick form is just *****ing insane. The thing basicly has a mind of its own. You swing it once and it will do a few extra swings on its own. Also, the reach is massive!

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Please don't start the old "it glows when I do this, it must be the arcane attack" rumors again. It wasn't true for the BoM, so it's probably not true for this weapon.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The charged r2 of the hammer from the hammer can hit twice on the back with the second hit still setting up for a visceral.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I mean... I've seen Amygdalas but none of them has anything even sort of resembling this thing... Anyone know the Japanese name and direct translation?

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I did a run through of this area really fast, and on my way out I got the Blood-Starved Beast to follow me. I kept backpedaling outside of the cave, luring the beast outside, then cut back around so my back was to the cave, with the beast in front of me. It attacked me with the one where it sticks out its right arm then dashes at you while I was right next to the wall and it glitched through the wall. It died and I got it's echoes. Should maybe consider adding this to the wiki somewhere.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Which is better overall? The arm has longer range and greater speed but the kirkhammer hits harder and grants a heavier stun

                                                                                            • Anonymous

One of my favorite weapons in the game. The 'club' mode hits fast and can stunlock enemies, great for one-on-one fights. The transformation from club-to-arm is a fast attack that can lead into some amazing combos. And the arm, the best part, turns a club into a club with a whip on the end. The timing can be tricky, but I've had amazing succes with this weapon, and been able to clear huge groups of enemies and keep hunters at bay. Wish the Arcane scaling were better, but the ***** thing would be overpowered if it were, so... Anyways, Love.This.Weapon.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

This thing actually gets decent arcane scaling (C), it's pretty awesome on a strength arcane hybrid build. without any gems and 50 arcane, you get 122 Arcane damage at +10. that's better than the burial blade and blade of mercy, which get B scaling in arcane!

                                                                                                • Anonymous

The move set makes it easy to pull off combos and the club mode is great for when enemies get up close and personal. Very good item for my STR build character. Took some time to get used to the range though and the charge attack is kinda tricky to use in PvP.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I used the transformed uncharged R2 against the frenzy inflicting enemies at the beginning of upper cath. ward and was surprised about the damage. It seems to be thrust. Also tested against brainsuckers.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

So putting aside the overly powerful transformed version, the hammer looks awfully like a certain dragon's tooth.. Even attacks the same, or am I just crazy?

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

maybe other people know this, but I just found out that unlike (all?) other weapons, in either mode when you charge R2 with this weapon you can move around slowly a little bit while charging, letting you get some extra reach or step back out of the way of an attack that would interrupt you charging. kind of cool. the animation when you are in club mode is funny, you teeter around a bit. The start of charge R2 in transformed mode you can't move, but after you charge for a sec you can take a few steps.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Wish I had of upgraded this more before I went to ng+, it's only +7 atm but I find I use it over either my +10 Ludwigs and Saif. The r1 stunlock in club mode is ridiculous for 1v1 fighting anything smaller than a giant and the transformed mode is amazing for large groups of enemies.

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                                            • Anonymous
