Church Pick is a trick weapon in Bloodborne. It was added with The Old Hunters DLC. There are 3 versions of this weapon: Normal, Uncanny and Lost. The only known differences being the Gem Imprints and the locations in which they are found.

Church Pick Description

"One of the old trick weapons of the Healing Church, a hunting weapon formed from one of the giant picks that appear in old beast tales.
The Church Pick initially serves as a large sword, but when transformed functions as an extended war pick. In spite of its origins, it is a highly practical weapon."

Church Pick Information

  • This weapon deals Righteous damage and its thrust attacks deal additional damage to enemies weak to Beasthunter blood gems.
  • The Church Pick is not serrated, but rather has a hidden Beasthunter damage modifier of 20% applied to all of its attacks that deal Thrust damage.
  • Transforms from a large sword to a war pick.

Location

Normal

  • The Hunter's Nightmare: Dropped by a hunter wearing Yahar'Gul set (presumably, this is the summonable Old Hunter Defector Antal) in one of the cells that you open with the Underground Cell Key from the Research Hall. To make this battle simple, attack him through the door with a strong R2 attack, then leave the room. He will lose sight of you and his AI will return to a standstill behind the door. Rinse and repeat until dead.

Uncanny Church Pick

  • If you have the normal version: Create Glyph 8i29rqz3 (Pthumeru Labyrinth) and buy from Bath Messengers up a ladder from the main room for 16,000 Blood Echoes.

Lost Church Pick

  • If you have the normal version: Create Glyph 8i29rqz3 (Pthumeru Labyrinth) and buy from Bath Messengers up a ladder from the main room for 16,000 Blood Echoes.

Player Notes

  • The transformed L2 attack does very little damage, but has a large stagger effect. This can be used to combo enemies which normally cannot be stunlocked by R1 attacks. (The snake-headed men in Forbidden Woods are an example)
  • When transformed, all attacks deal Thrusting dmg. This makes it very effective against enemies weak to thrusts (brain sucker, celestial mob) and allows the setting of powerful "adept" blood gems.
  • The transformed R2 attack (uncharged) has very good range.
  • With strength and skill both at level 50, a fully upgraded Church Pick has an ATK of 340.

Trivia

  • The Church Pick And The Hunter's Axe both have similar appearance. When transformed, both are wielded as a polearm and have the same de-transformation attack. The only difference apart from the Church Pick having a slightly more complicated mechanism is that the Hunter's Axe is a strength-based weapon.
  • A few of its attacks in the transformed mode are very similar to that of the Burial Blade.
  • The Church Pick os the weapon of choice of the summonable Old Hunter NPC Defector Antal

My absolute favorite weapon in the game that has me constantly debating when my skill characters are ready for Ludwig.

      • Anonymous

Takes a bit of effort to get, but totally worth it. That hidden 20% bonus against beasts is very nice. One of my favourite weapons in the game.

        • Anonymous

Not as strong against groups as something like the Axe or Burial Blade but a very powerful tool nonetheless. Deceptively fast too

          • Anonymous

The hunter immediately got stuck behind the door after I ran out of the cell (didn't even know he was in there until he attacked me). Luckily I had my cosmic drumstick to pancake him through the wall for jumping me. The Pick itself is decent, I actually like the one-handed form a lot. It feels like a more complete take on the Corvian greatknife. Problem is the transformed state isn't really my jam, there's something unwieldy about these halberd-like weapons for me.

            • Anonymous

Is there any enemy that isn't weak to this? It has Thrust, Beasthunter and Righteous so I'm pretty sure every enemy is weak to it in some way.

              • Amazes me how every weapon in this game is viable. I personally love the Skill based weapons and this thing right here is like easy mode. So powerful but also fun as hell to use. Redundant with the weapons in this game. Bloodborne is THE FromSoftware game IMO. It’s a perfect game

                • Anonymous

You could at least afford to tell where the hunter is instead of assuming we know what doors the key opens. Especially considering how much wasted text are listed under the map walkthroughs for battle tactics when that has nothing to do with navigation.

                    Compared to the burial blade,
                    Pros
                    -Very stabby, good against kin
-All stab moves have pseudo-serration (20%) and the weapon is also rightous (20%)
                    -higher physical damage
                    -transformed L2 is excellent
-better transformed moveset (in my opinion)
                    - buffable
                    Cons
                    -No innate arcane
-burial blade’s dodging attacks are stronger
-untransformed burial blade is much easier to use.
-untransformed R1 combo is weird and bad against groups (in my opinion)
                    Conculsion
I’d say to take the church pick over the burial blade if you’re the kind of hunter who’d prefer more damage against non-humanoid foes, or don’t foresee yourself using dodging attacks very much.

The transformed R1 is just made for the fight against Amygdala. I was doing around 600 damage per swing to the head and I don’t even have high-level blood gems yet.

Super simple looking weapon, nothing special bout it.
That’s until you feel the weight of a picking pick going through your skull. Then you’ll pay attention.
                            Good luck, Gascoigne.
                            Good luck, Amelia.
                            Good luck, Gehrman.
                            The Church Pick reigns supreme.
                            10/10.

So I play bloodborne for over two years now and was experimenting with this baby here. I used my best Thrust Gems for it and read something about righteous... Welp, didn't knew that's a thing. (Btw Pick Form R1 + L1 + R1 is the best Thrust combo and I love it) Anyway I was going through a Loran Dungeon and encountered a Labyrinth sage. (You know, these guys that have the Scream-like mask face, are fast as fvck Boi and floaty hair). I positioned myself behind the guy to give him a nice backstab with a pick formed R2. Welp... I fvcked up the attack so I immediately did another one... That's when I learned this thing has a follow uppercut to its R2. And that my fellow hoonters was the moment I fell in love with this weapon. The second R2 sends Bloodlickers flying and I absolutely love it. Thank you for being here to read this nice story about a fellow hoonter.

I don’t know how to read scaling (plz don’t laugh) would this be good for a strength build?

                                • Anonymous

The difference between +9 and +10 is nearly 60!! I had Skill 50 and Strength 20 and expected a nice increase going to +10, but nearly 60? Nice! :)

This weapon is amazing. I've been playing BB for years but never tried it until now. It's actually very good!

                                  • Anonymous

Fun fact, his AI is actually programmed to have him stand behind any door. I ran into the hall after hitting him and he started waiting for me behind the door made of metal bars leading down to Brador's cell. It was especially funny when you consider he's trying to sneakily hide and wait behind a door that is completely see through. Solid wooden door? Didn't work. Open metal bars? This will get him for sure!

The transformed version follow-up R2 after a fully charged R2 attack from the back (backstab) also opens up enemies for visceral attack, meaning that with enough stamina it can do charged R2-> follow up R2-> visceral attack dealing massive damage... Probably would be useful in chalice dungeons...

Righteous, serrated, and mainly thrust damage. Because every enemy you face is gonna be weak against at least one of those

                                        • Anonymous

Untransformed, it looks like the posts in the cathedral of the deep which you can find almost everywhere, often impaling a corpse or man-grub near the covenant NPC

                                          • Anonymous

It's worth mentioning how great this weapon is based on the transformed version dealing only thrust damage. Very few of the enemies or bosses in the whole game has a great resistance to thrust damage, they either have a minor weakness to it, and take slightly more damage, a major weakness, with obviously big damage, or just average resistance. Literally the only enemies/bosses I can think of that have thrust damage resistance are those that have resistance against all physical damage anyway.

                                            • Anonymous

There's a really cool follow up move if you hit R2 right after a fully charged R2 in it's transformed version, almost like a more damaging, more focused version of the Hunter Axe's spin2win. Such incredible knock back, high damage, and it looks really cool!

                                              • If you are Arcane looking for a serrated fire weapon, this thing is my go-to. It has good reach, decent scaling, fast attacks, and is light on your stamina bar.

                                                • Anonymous

Just out of curiosity, how the hell is this weapon serrated? Righteous I can understand since it's a church weapon, but there aren't any serrations or teeth in the model. Did Fromsoft just decide that this one weapon should get all the bonuses, no matter how nonsensical it would be?

                                                  • Anonymous

Has anyone noticed that this looks very similar to Yorgh's Spear from Darksouls 2 in it's untransformed state? Maybe Sir Yorgh is the old hunter from the tales haha

                                                    • I just want to mention, the wiki has this being described as "a short spear" when it's in its untransformed state, yet in the description of the actual weapon it says "large sword."

                                                      • Anonymous

STR/SKL build with just enough arcane to use Empty Phantasm Shell. Everything else into VIT and END, plus a blunderbuss for them juicy staggers, and ba-blam! You can handle ANYTHING in the game, and can also cosplay as Sister Friede.

                                                        • Anonymous

Why put the points into strength and skill for this weapon? Why not skill and arcane since it has higher scaling with arcane?

                                                          • Anonymous

I'd actually go as far to say this has the most versatile moveset of any weapon in the game. The weapons' overall moveset in both modes has literally something for everything, on top of its unique status of having both Righteous and Serrated damage inherent. Its damage is...ok, contrary to what one would think with all the inherent bonuses it has and on paper damage number, but that's just contrary to other options in the game. Its moveset is still so good and its damage still good more or less that it more than makes up for it.

                                                            • Anonymous

So I can't fight the guy to get the pick. He is literally crouched in the corner of the room. Did I miss something

                                                              • Anonymous

Shouldn't the moveset make mentions of it's charged R2 follow up R2 attack? You scrape the pick along the ground then thrust forward with the tip that can send enemies flying back.

                                                                • Anonymous

What makes this weapon so great...the L2. That L2 can surprise anyone and has a lot of stagger damage. The L2 can knock nearly anyone out of a attack. But also the charge attack in PVP is amazing because you will prob miss the 1st charge hit...however if you delay the 2nd hit a little bit then they will run in to try and hit you...then they die.

With thrust gems, this thing can ONE SHOT! people. (Over 1500-1600 damage with the return charge hit.)Tested with best thrust gems and 50 skill plus min strength

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

Why is this weapon considered serrated? IS it considered serrated? I've never noticed any extra damage toward beasts when I use it...

                                                                      • Anonymous

I've used nearly every weapon in this game and I can personally tell you this is one of the best and doesn't get the recognition it deserves. With all 27.2% physical gems and with 50 in skill and strength this thing has exactly 700 damage. The damage paired with the righteous and serrated multiplier and the fact it's transformed mode is all thrust attaxks this weapon is possibly the most versatile weapon in the game. Also I'm working on getting 3 thrust atk up 31.5 atk gems, and I know that'll make this thing a beast. Also one of my favorite parts of this weapon is the move set, the charged R2 follow up will leave enemies reeling.

I've just been playing a Skill/Bloodtinge build around 160 lvl and found this weapon a hell of a lot of fun in PvP, it has awesome range on non tricked and tricked attacks which a lot of opponents misjudge and the transform L1 is super quick to make it into a Scythe. The transform attack from Scythe to non tricked weapon also confuses people too and with a 1.42x multiplier can be pretty devastating. I either use this or Beasthunter Saif for PvP.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

This is a minor PVP issue that has lost me a few fights. I personally love this weapon but this is something to keep in mind for people using it.

Charge R2 and right after that press R2 again, in this weapons transformed mode it does an awesome attack that sends almost every enemy flying. Kirkhammer has one too with incredible damage

States wise it is not overwhelming but to the experience player it's befits are clear. It staggers like crazy on both modes. Stops all but the biggest in its tracks. Good reach. Ok stamina drain. I can get 45 hits on astral lady in corner? She could do nothing. Pick mode has great reach, speed and range r1 pick spam also staggers. Great move set for norm and pick. I do more dps with this wep than my beefed up Ludwig. Amazing wep
