Beckoning Bell

beckoning_bell.jpg

Great old bell discovered in the underground labyrinth.
Its ring resonates across worlds, and the first hunter used it as a special signal to call hunters from other worlds to cross the gap and cooperate.
A human must use Insight to ring this uncanny bell, but the benefits of cross-world cooperation are many.

Beckoning Bell Usage

Beware! If you are currently part of either the Cainhurst Vilebloods or Executioners covenant, Guests will be hostile if they belong to the opposing covenant.

  • At the cost of 1 Insight, use the Beckoning Bell to summon other hunters, who have used a Small Resonant Bell, as Guests into your world to assist you.
  • The Beckoning Bell can also summon NPC guests if used around an in-game note that says: "Ring the Beckoning Bell if you require assistance."
    • Summoning an NPC in Online Mode will also attempt to summon a player (at no extra cost to Insight) as well. However, this will also spawn a Chime Maiden.

Location

NPC Summon Locations

  • Father Gascoigne can be summoned just behind the lever gate to the left of the Central Yharnam lamp. He can no longer be summoned once the fight with him is initiated, in which case Alfred will replace him at this location.
  • Alfred can be summoned in front of the Church of the Good Chalice, to the right of the stairs leading into the dirt road that goes into the church. Alfred can not be summoned unless the player agrees to co-operate with him.

Notes

  • If the player obtains their first Insight while in the dream (by using Madman's Knowledge), the messengers will not appear immediately and requires a zone restart to become available.
  • Dying or using the Silencing Blank will give you back the insight that was consumed by the beckoning bell, assuming that nobody was summoned into your world. Sometimes there can be a delay between using the Silencing Blank and recovering your insight, but it should not last longer than a minute.
  • Can only be used in areas containing a boss. Some areas require you to activate certain events before you can summon (ie. Cathedral Ward - You must open all three large gates before you can use multiplayer items.).
  • A Host can summon a Guest whose level is within 20 + 20% (always rounded down) levels of her/his own level (ie. a level 27 Host can only summon a Guest whose level is between 4 and 52, inclusive).
  • Level range is ignored for co-op if a password is used, ever since Patch 1.04. A password does not affect PvP or invasion level ranges.
  • A Guest will appear in a Host's world at the location at which the Guest was standing in her/his own world at the time (s)he was summoned.
  • If a Host and Guest are part of opposing covenants (Cainhurst Vilebloods and Executioners), they will, instead, be hostile towards each other.
  • A Guest will remain in a Host's world until the Host dies, the Guest dies, an area boss is defeated, or either player uses a Silencing Blank to end the session.
  • The Beckoning Bell effect will end if you die, exit your game, ring the Small Resonant Bell, or use any teleport mechanic (Lamps, Hunter's Marks, etc.). However, if you avoid doing any of those things, the effect will persist, allowing you to spend 1 Insight and summon Guests in multiple areas.
  • While you can only have two 2 Guests (NPC summon doesn't count) in your world at any given time, the Beckoning Bell's effect will continue summoning/replacing Guests as long as it remains active.
  • Co-op bells have a range. If you and a friend are in the same area but very far apart, you will not join, even with the same password, unless you get closer to each other.
  • While standing still after ringing the bell, you can see pulsing rings around your character.

Bugs

  • Connection Bug: If you suspend Bloodborne for any reason or set your PS4 to rest mode while Bloodborne is open, the game will not report as such, but you will essentially be offline, disconnected from the server. If you are spending a long time looking for a person to summon or trying to be summoned, this is the reason. Close the Bloodborn app, and restart the game to restore your connection.

Unless you have a password you arent going to get a super low character summon. There is a range and they have to be in it. If you open summon and get a low garbage person, its because you have a low garbage character. Level up or get better.

The bell consumes on insight per use and will continue to ring until silenced or you die. Entering certain areas such as boss platforms will "Cloud" The bell. This is displayed by the bell buff marker being crossed out. This means the bell will automatically renew ringing after you leave the clouded zone. This concept applies to all bells. The bell will not refund consumed insight for any reason. This includes silencing your own bell. If a Cooperator leaves while you are still in a reception zone your bell will continue to ring. The bell does not consume insight per cooperator, only per initial use. The groupings of cooperators vary. At any given point during online play you are enlisted into a pool of users on like level. There may be many pools of the same level. If someone on your level has a password for your bell toll, they may be unable to connect because while they are eligible to be in your pool, they are in another online pool. Entering an area at the same time as your peer may be a way of ensuring you are in the same pool, but will require some co-ordination. After another user has been summoned, your world will be automatically qued for the sinister bell, so be careful when you use the bell as using it anywhere but near the boss door may get you invaded. Any items you bring from your world will be operable in the world of the player you join, and will be permanently consumed after use as normal, and will not be returned following your return to your world. This is likewise for the sinister bell. Hope this Helps gents

Do not use this bell, or any bell in the Forbidden forest area until it has been patched. there is a glitch causing failed progression tied to that area and action (You will be unable to level up)

How hard will it be to try and play with friends in this way? And do you still need to be within the same level range to play with friends?

During the fight with one reborn, my friend and I were swapping back and forth. Within a couple levels of each other, we defeated the boss on my world and hence my beckoning bell no longer calls. My friend called me to his world (has 30 insight) once more, and we began the battle. I died halfway in, and he also lost his life. Upon re spawn, he could not summon me, or even ring his beckoning bell. Note his re spawn point is where I was summoned before, and the grated area covers ALL of yhar'gul. This issue happened when we attempted to fight Rom together, but the issue wasn't the same for me. All doors open are the same, so no requirement is missed here.

Someone should add that it doesn't just require insight to use, it consumes the insight. That's a significant change from how humanity worked in the souls games. What if you die after you ring the bell but before someone joins? What if you wait for a while and no one shows up? If you quit and restart, will the bell still be ringing?

Around the fountain after the burning werewolf, you can summon Gascoigne. I've never seen this sign appear here before and I don't know if there is some sort of trigger for it either. I could have just been missing it the entire time. http://i.imgur.com/4dgpybe.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ogULpyx.jpg
