"The Bloody memories of those cursed by the plague of the Beast"

Usage

  • Blood Echoes are used to level up your Stats.
  • Blood Echoes are used to trade with Messengers. You can buy and sell items.
  • Blood Echoes are also used to repair the durability and upgrade Weapons.
  • Blood Echoes are necessary to perform a Chalice Ritual.

Acquired by

  • Killing enemies will yield blood echoes, number gained depends on level and type of the enemy.
  • You can acquire Blood Echoes by consuming Coldblood, found throughout the worlds.
  • You can acquire Blood Echoes by selling items to the Bath Messenger in the Hunter's Dream.

Notes

  • When you die, the Blood Echoes that you are carrying will be left on the ground. If an enemy is nearby, there's a chance he will absorb them and thus be in possession of your valuable echoes and you will have to defeat them to recover your "Blood Transfusion". If an enemy absorbs the Blood Echoes his eyes will start to glow in a light purple color.
    • Some strong enemies have a chance to leave the echo on the ground available for pick up.
    • Bosses, including their summons, never absorb echoes.
    • The absorption does not only happen during loading screens. If one is (un)lucky enough, they are able to witness an enemy absorb their echoes. There is no animation when they do so, however.
    • If you quit the game without using the "exit game" option from the menu, your lost echo will disappear.
  • If you die again before you are able to recollect you lost Blood Echoes, they will be lost forever.
  • If you die and reload your save, you can retrieve your Blood Echoes at the Lecture Building (First floor outside the lamp room).
  • If you have looked everywhere for your Blood Echoes and cannot find them either where you lost them, or in the Lecture Building, try going to the Hunter's dream and then back to the place you lost them. You should now be able to find either your blood stain, or an enemy which has absorbed them.

Tombstone #2, Glyph name CUMMMFPK, roll ahead twice and wait for creature to die, use Bold hunter's Mark, and repeat.

(I suggest 3 Moon runes.) Or whatever the rune was called for more blood echoes. You'd reach well over a million in about a minute or less.

Just for addition challenge and sport what is the most echoes collected and maintained at one time? Currently, at 1.3M echoes.

...except sometimes after you die they're NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. not left on the ground, not absorbed by an enemy, NO-*****ING-WHERE.

It is noteworthy that the game does not look if an enemy is nearby, but rather if its spawn point is nearby. Enemies whose spawn location is far from your death location will never absorb your souls, instead it will be a seemingly random enemy that is closest to where you died by default. If it is distant enough from an enemy spawn point, you will leave them on the ground. Frequently fights with strong enemies go into odd locations, so there is a large chance your echoes will end up on the ground. It may be worthwhile to update the wiki with this, though others should also test for themselves.

So, I recently made a Chalice that gives 456,331 echos in about two-four minutes. Cursed, Rotted and Fetid Isz Root. First room has two Celestial Beings. Kill those, then you can V-Attack the two hunters that are in the room. They give around 147k. There is one last Hunter, pretty easy to kill. Then kill youself in the fire at the start of the room to reset. I would reccomend running Heir runes, T2 and T3. As well as T3 Moon, in case you dont get a V. Attack on the last hunter. I've found this to be the best way to level up. I went from 265-280 in about 45 minutes. Glyph- y6cpay6n

What's up with that? "If you die and reload your save, you can retrieve your Blood Echoes at the Lecture Building (First floor outside the lamp room)." Someone posted a Youtube video but it's no longer available.
