Insight is a stat in Bloodborne. It governs the amount of inhuman knowledge you have acquired by exploring the game and defeating enemies. It is required to use the Beckoning Bell to summon other players into your game world. Please see Moon Phases to understand the "timezone" cycles, they are not related to Insight.

Insight Unlocks & Effects

  • Each additional Insight reduces the Beasthood stat. Spending Insight alternatively increases the Beasthood stat.
  • Each additional Insight reduces the Frenzy resistance.
  • Insight cannot exceed a limit of 99.

  • Note: Not all world related Insight changes are instant, like the bath messenger, so you might need to reload the area for the change to take effect.

"insight has known to drive some "mad" yet the knowledge they gain is considered a blessing, thus making you more susceptible to frenzy" dayum i mightve maxxed out my insight irl oh fug

      • Anonymous

Linda bullshit that frenzy increases with insight over all that nonsense about higher knowledge and going crazy over enlightment, does it not make more sense that the lower your insight, the easier to get frenzied? I mean it's easier to panic ignorants with complex thoughts, as opposed to someone with knowledge that can call out bullshit

Really wish there were more changes that occurred at high insight. It's such an interesting mechanic and it's barely used in interesting ways. Would have provided a lot more replay value and give a reason to revisit places in the same NG cycle.

          • Anonymous

Worst matchmaking system I’ve experienced, up to a point where just so tired of these inconvenient mechanics for the sake of “depth” just let me join a friend.

            • Anonymous

someone said that queen yharnam doesn’t use all her moves if you have less than 15 insight, is this true? It would make sense for insight to affect some bosses, like how if affects the witches of hemwick. does anyone know of other things like this?

              • Anonymous

What happens when you gain insight (for example discovering or beating a boss) when you're already at 99 insight? Does it get completely wasted or is it converted to madman's knowledge?

                • Anonymous

With only 1 insight you start to see Amogus references in the environment. You also gain a point every time you see one.

                  • Anonymous

Such a shame that high insight is just effectively a bad thing. When I first played I thought the idea was the coolest thing, but trading frenzy resistance and beasthood to hear an old man whisper is pretty lame. Would be nice if maybe more outlandish weapons reacted to high insight (amygdala arm etc) or just some other material benefits to stockpiling the stuff.

                    • Anonymous

Don't let the insight distract you from the fact that there is a settlement that needs your help. I'll mark it on your map.

I think above 50 insight, the lever for the sealed gate in the Cathedral Ward (the one that normally requires the Hunter Chief Emblem to open) will be visibly surrounded by Messengers. When you use the Emblem, you can see they actually pull the lever for you.

Another thing: I've always been convinced that higher insight also lowers your arcane defense?? Out of habit, I spend most of my insight before fighting certain bosses like Rom, Micolash, or Ludwig, and I've noticed a massive difference in the damage I take from their arcane attacks. Has anyone else ever observed this, or am I just being superstitious?

In everyday language, insight means that the properties, contexts and relationships of an object area are subjectively recognized with sufficient accuracy, mentally grasped and factually correctly understood. As a conscious result of the combination of perception and reflection, insight is the result of an analytical-synthetic knowledge process. In everyday psychology, insights that are obtained in other ways and then often “in a flash” are ascribed to a special mental faculty, namely “intuition”. Insight also describes, in relation to Bloodborne, the recognition of a deeply hidden, uncanny truth, the "Eldritch Truth". However, this insight and the information that goes with it exceed the human understanding to the highest degree and can therefore lead to madness and ultimately to massive cerebral hemorrhage, which is why Frenzy is promoted by high insight and is often triggered by otherworldly horrors.

I've added my own insight rules to Bloodborne: the Card Game, because it was strangely absent. Get some blue or white marblized tokens to represent insight (like the red marblized tokens represent blood echoes). When you confront a boss, before anything else, each player rolls the die. The player with the highest roll gains 1 insight. Also, the player that deals the final blow to a boss gains 1 insight.

These can be used to purchase additional upgrades in the hunter's dream or spent ONCE at the beginning of a boss fight as a kind of "summoning" of another hunter for help which allows a random upgrade card to be drawn and resolved immediately. The insight could also be spent to increase the humanoid and kin trophy tokens along their track by 1, even if a death token is blocking progress. It cannot be used to increase a beast trophy token (as insight reduces beasthood in the video game).

Oh, and any damage received from a brainsucker depletes 1 insight. If the brainsucker escapes it takes another 1 insight from each player. Yeah, they suck in the card game too.

If you gain 2 insight your max health depletes by 1; 3 insight and your max health depletes by 2, etc. This is to give the "frenzy resistance reduction" effect that it has in the video game, and encourage players to not try and hoard insight.

There should have been Weapons/Spells that Scaled with this, Like how they did with Humanity and Chaos Weapons in DS1

Sekiro has charmless and demon bell hard difficulty. This is my first playthrough in Bloodborne but, if I understood correctly, 99 insight is the hard mode for Bloodborne? I'm in. Even if I use beast blood pellets.

This is the double-edged sword Humanities needed to be. Considering Humanity gathers at the Abyss, imagine if having more Humanities (The counter) would turn you into something entirely different from Hollowing. Much like what it did to Artorias. It's done so much better here in Bloodborne.

I was hearing Gerhman's voice while he was sleeping with only 11 insight. Has anyone had any similar experiences or an explanation for this?

If your inaight meter near 99 or it is 99 dont use your mad mans. I lost 73 mad man because of the *****ng 99 limit. I didnt know anythgn about 99 limit and my 1 ng cycle and chalice runs mad mans *****ed up. God damn *****ng 99 limit!!!!

"When you gain insight you will hear several, quick, faint whispers" I didn't realize there was a point where you don't hear several faint whispers. Why is the sound so damned chaotic in this one? It makes me way more jumpy than I need to be.

I hear a baby's cry at 4, and a great way to farm insight is to use the resonant bell and help take down bosses, didn't use any insight and you gain insight and blood echos, don't lose blood echos if you die aswell, can only go up

                                            • Anonymous

Is there any reliable way of farming insight? I know there are sporadic drops in the aqueducts....anything else?

Not sure if this a Chalice Dungeon thing or insight caused Chalice Dungeon thing, but whenever I kill all enemies on a floor and round back to the floor lamp there is usually a Bloodlicker waiting for me and it is a very heafty one that does massive damage and has a ton of health. I have been at a minimum of 40 Insight(normally around 60 except for encounters with Brainsuckers).

I like how this is World Tendency from Demon's Souls, Humanity in Dark Souls, and a sanity mechanic common in H.P. Lovecraft inspired games all in one stat. Cleverly done From.

Hi... I am on a NG++ cycle of Bloodborne and now it costs me two insights to summon assistance when impurity rune is equipped. (Valtr being one example). Is this correct?

I heard Mergos Lullaby playing in central Yharnam (near the spot where you can summon Gascoigne, or basically near his house) in new game+. Had 73 Insight.

If some one can correct me. I've went to the second boss and got the insight for seeing him. Second time. I had an allies and we both die. When I spawn back to the lanterns insted of bein at 6 insight I was back at 7. Is the insigh regiven when you duo fail the bosses?

While attempting the Rom fight with some 40 insight and giving up I came back with 75. Before the bodyguards only had two attacks, but now they additionally spat acid, had a new leaping attack, would leap backwards, had a new flurry atatck, and an odd-chain leap.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

At 30 insight they begin doing an area-of-effect dome attack that staggers." This occurs below 20 or 30 insight. I don't think this is insight related at all, unless it's 'cumulative' insight, i.e. insight memory.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

At 50, the three shadows were also harder to kill--they just did more and took less damage. (Not sure if the latter was insight, though. I might have gotten sucked into an NG+ fight somehow, since my level was around 70 at the time, and I was a cooperator. Any confirmation on damage taken/given according to insight?)

At the end, you'll hear clearly: "Seek the Blood, but beware, the frailty of Men. Their wills are weak, minds young." I just helped someone beat Vicar and I only had 17 insight and I heard this. However, it could be because in their world they had more than 20 insight. Just something to consider

i don't play online, i defeat every boss on my own, i currently have 72 insights, from which i have no clue what to so with. Some enemies (such as the insects in "forsaken castle cainhurst") have become enchanted with glowing red eyes after hitting the 70's mark. they are faster stronger and with nearly unlimited stamina. Although they do give off MORE bloodechos. and ranking up has been be very easy. but the bosses have also become infinitely more powerful. it's as if i set the difficulty of the game much higher.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Wise as i was, i didn't buy me anything for that. So, did i missed something, becaus i ran with 99 insight all the time? Currently i'm working on ng+3, still with 99 insight up (all the time).

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

If you drop below 50 it will revert back to normal. Of course after defeating Rom, it will be permanently changed because of the story. Here is my video proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwiLJCwZTPw

I'm in the area where crow-dogs and Shadow of Yharnam-like mobs come out. I got the message of the bell ringing woman with a sinister bell and another bell starts ringing and a player invades my world without using the Beckoning Bell. Is this because of the amount of Insight? Hasn't happened until now.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Was at 12 Insight and they never used a pistol. Buffed myself to 20 to hear Amelia talking and on the way i got shot by a pale guy with his pistol (and the Lamp enemies shot projectiles as known)

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

I like to farm the hoppers (as i call them) in front of cainhurst castle and was at 44 insight when I attempted to again...least to say that it hurt. So I dropped the insight down to (at this point) 19, and noticed that they did at least a few of the new attacks, just not rampantly as with the higher insight. Anyone else notice stuff like this? or did that insight truly make me mad?

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Its does not make you weaker, do less damage and receive more damage? Its does not make boss became harder, aggressively and more ferocious? So its just placebo effects? lol to cut the crap short; everything remains the same, its just add some weird phenomenon into the game only, that's it?

                                                                                                                          • Anonymous

I noticed this today when fighting the Shadow of Yahrnam and confirmed it with Rom, although I don't know if this is an intentional change or just a glitch in my game post update.

She's probably the host of the hunters dream. She's alive. At a certain level of insight her finger on her lap starts twitching. Didnt work with 12 but with 63. So its somewhere in between.

Now, i can see the Amygdala in cathedral ward near the second hunter set. Later on, i obtained the tonsil stone. I keep seeing people saying things like, "he did that with only 5 insight. He would have much more trouble with higher insight" is there anything to this? It seems like there isn't. One way or the other, can it be added to the page?

Does this essentially 'force' you to start a new game plus after a while or is there a way to farm at least a small amount? Dont have this game so sorry for my ignorance.

I fought him with 97 insight and he never went invisible, could this be due to the high insight or was something else going on?

Both of them were noticed at 50 insight and also ng+ (but didn't seem to be due to this). First, the gate you open with lugwing's key purchased after the cleric beast for 10000 will have messengers holding it's lever. An interesting touch. Secondly, the dead man at the gate that allows access to the forbidden woods had a different dialogue, where he would start mumbling incomprehensible things after asking for the password, only a part being hearable and written on the subtitles "... Got to close the...". He appears to say gate at the end but I had a hard time hearing it, so that word may be wrong. Hope someone can confirm what amount triggers these. Great to finally start contributing to this community! -Ashkiin "May the good blood guide your way"

The only thing I can think of was that Gehrman never did his aerial attack, but I only realized after I killed him so I couldn't retry the fight.

I went on a chunk farming route with wolves, had 3 eyes rune equipped and with 24 arcane had 370 discovery. Of 10 runs I only got two chunks. That time I had 30 insight on me. Then I consumed all madman\wisdom items I got and topped my insight to 88 Of the next 10 runs I got 15!!! chunks. It was chunk literally every run, sometimes two. One run was without chunks but the next one i got 3! on one run. I DO NOT believe this could be a coincidence!!!! Hope someone can check it from your side as well. Update: Made another farming run, 16 times; my loot: 72 shards, 32 twin shards, 20 chunks

On 1 of my characters he spoke in his sleep with 8 insight, and on another character he only mumbled with 40 insight.
