Iosefka's Blood Vial

iosefkas blood vial

Blood vial acquired from Iosefka's clinic.
This refined blood, highly invigorating, restores a larger amount of HP.

The product of a slow and careful refinement process, this rare blood vial appears to be a clinic original.

Iosefka's Blood Vial is a Consumable Item in Bloodborne.

Iosefka's Blood Vial Usage

  • The Hunter can use this special vial to regain 70% HP of his/her total health.
    • Unlike a regular Blood Vial, this one is used as an item rather than clicking the triangle button.
    • During the early game portion, it can be restocked under special circumstances, which helps the Hunter get through the beginning.

Location

  • After visiting the Hunter's Dream for the first time, go to Iosefka's Clinic, then go behind the lantern and up the stairs. Interact with the door once to obtain this vial.
  • It drops from a Celestial Mob at the Clinic, suggesting that the mob is the real Iosefka, while the one you talked to since reaching the Cathedral Ward is an imposter.
  • It's found in a treasure chest in Mergo's Lost: Middle near Queen Yharnam and a shortcut elevator.

Notes

  • Once you have used Iosefka's Blood Vial, you can return to the clinic and speak to her again to receive another vial as long as you don't anger her by attacking the door.
    • She stops giving these once you have reached the Cathedral Ward.
    • Furthermore, her voice changes mysteriously....
  • You can only hold one of Iosefka's Blood Vial at a time.
    • It can be held at the same time you hold a special vial from either Arianna or Adella.
    • It cannot be stored back in the Hunter's Dream's storage.

Trivia

  • As the description states, Iosefka's Blood Vial was a result of a slow and careful refinement process.
    • This may also be the reason why Iosefka only lends one at a time to the Hunter, since the vials may have been difficult to produce and thus low in number.
  • Since Iosefka is wearing the White Church Set, it's possible that her vials may have been used for experimentation purposes rather than a cure.
    • However, her behavior suggests otherwise, since she is kind and generous to the Hunter from the beginning.
    • Still, due to the dubious nature of the Healing Church, it's possible that someone else other than her may have used her vials for experiments.
  • The vial found in the Nightmare of Mensis has been a popular topic of discussion regarding why it's found in that particular place (near Mergo of all beings).
    • One theory is that Iosefka, or perhaps the imposter doctor, may have had a hand in creating the nightmare.
    • Another theory is that a person who helped create the nightmare regularily visited Iosefka's Clinic.
      • In this case, the vial might have been for Mergo.
      • However, the person may have simply used it for his/her own purpose.
    • Ultimately, there is no concrete proof for the theories about why the vial is there, but many believe that Miyazaki would not have placed it there without having a purpose lore-wise.

Thought these special vials were going to be more important to the game, like some form of the estus mechanic of the souls games. Bummer.

in regards to the vial found near Mergo, its also found near where Yharnam('s ghost?) is. Could it be possible that the Vial couldve been for YHARNAM instead of Mergo? To essentially keep her healthy so she doesn't die during childbirth?

The blood inside this vial isn't red, because it's refined from Kin blood, which is yellow.

This is at least part of the reason Iosefka and/or her imposter are transforming people into Celestial Emissaries (a type of Kin) -- they're being used as blood donors for an experimental, improved type of healing blood. The real Iosefka may or may not have been a knowing accomplice to this before she herself was transformed.

'Standard' healing blood is drawn by the Healing Church from human Blood Saints, who have ingested so much Old Blood that it has given their own blood new properties. Their blood remains red, hence the color of standard healing blood.

Imposter Iosefka appears to be a member of the Choir. The Healing Church has always experimented with human subjects. As we know, healing blood derived from the Old Blood source has... problems. Hence the Choir's interest in developing an alternative.

It's not really the color of kin blood which is greyish. Rather it's the color of separated blood plasma (serum) which makes sense given the description of it being highly refined.

            • Someone vandalized this page, so I decided to revive it and give it a good cleanup.

One thing however that I have yet to confirm is whether or not the vial you get from the Celestial Mob version of Iosefka actually has a different description. A post below claims it did, but from I remember it doesn't change from the first ones you got before. I could be wrong, or perhaps a previous patch secretly changed it, but I'll make revisions if I ended up being wrong.

Went back to her after Father G but before BSB and she will no longer offer this to me, so now I can't get one. Current theory is that once you trigger the old lady NPC who first asks you about a safe place, Iosefka's dialogue changes and she no longer offer the vial.

In the English language PAL version of the game, this item has the following description: "Blood vial acquired from the lady doctor at Iosefka's clinic. This refined blood, highly invigorating, restores a larger amount of HP. This rare blood vial is a product of a slow and careful refinement process, likely devised by the doctor herself." Calling her "the lady doctor at Iosefka's clinic" would suggest that she is not the titular Iosefka. This is however strange and confusing since, prior to getting this item, she says herself that she is Iosefka.

Considering how much emphasis FROM put in dropping hints to the greater plot in this game, does anyone have a theory as to why one of Iosefka's Blood Vials shows up in a dedicated chest right before the Wet Nurse fight? There's got to be a reason for that. Giving a one-off strong heal from a gameplay standpoint seems rather pointless, it has to be a lore reason (probably tied to the Impostor somehow).

                    • Went from 327 to 1100 HP when using this item. Unfortunately, my health caps at 1100, so the results are useless. Could someone with more health test this thing out?
