Executioner is an Enemy in Bloodborne.

Executioner Information

Executioners are very broad enemies carrying large axes. They are very difficult at base level due to their large amount of health, swift attacks and high damage output.

Strategy

  • The Hunter Blunderbuss is an effective weapon for stunning these foes. Due to the very fast attack speed of this enemy, is best to fire the weapon as soon as the attack animation begins.
  • Due to its long reach and power, the Hunter Axe is an effective weapon against executioners. The Axe can easily stagger them during their guarding stance. They will also be flung back by a charged R2 attack, opening them up for a killing blow.
  • Any heavy weaponry, like Ludwig's Holy Blade, is advisable to carry into battle against one. When they take a protective stance, a crushing blow will have them reel from the attack, and open them to an additional, usually fatal strike.
  • If you can sneak up behind them without catching their attention, they are very susceptible to charged attacks and visceral hits.

Notes & Trivia

  • Has a high chance of dropping a tempering blood gemstone, which can be used for weapon upgrades. Helpful if you want to farm gems early in the game.
  • Executioners wear a plated helmet with two round openings for their eyes.
  • At the height of their navel, their armour depicts the face of a lady.
  • Looking up their cape reveals greasy dreadlocks, but these could just as well be tentacles.
  • The plates on their shoulders have an embossment on them that from the right angle looks like a foot with toes and an eye on it. The metal foot is characteristic of Smough (Dark Souls) but also the Looking Glass Knight (Dark Souls 2). Amygdala happens to have feet with eyes on them. It could be that Amygdala and the Executioners are connected somehow.
  • Similar to the Ya'hargul Set, the attire worn is one of the few rare examples of traditional armor in the game/

A cool detail I noticed when fighting one of these despicable fatties in the forbidden woods is that their helmets, which are usually obscured by the hood, bears a striking resemblance to Valtr’s bucket helmet. As it only has one eye hole in it. On top of that, their cape is the same one on the butcher set that the Madaras twins wear. Both of whom are former confederates under Valtr. I’m not speculating anything lore related, but it is interesting that this one enemy has a visual link to two other closely tied npcs in the game.

Tonitrus is a great weapon to take on this enemy. Electricity is more effective on metal armor and cheeses through this enemy in 2-3 shot of transformed (L1) strikes

Is there ever any explanation for them or did a bunch of 8 foot tall units with giant axes just randomly show up in yharnam to vibe

I was watching my friend play the game, and he just got grabbed by one of these guys, but he took ZERO DAMAGE... What?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've really grown to enjoy fighting these guys. They're not that easy, but they have very fair mechanics and they are actually worth the kill.

So this is a little far-fetched, but seeing as it's a Fromsoft game I figured I'd share my theory. We know the Souls games have a penchant for adding grotesque, thicc, strong women to their games, starting with the Butchers in Dark Souls 1 and continuing with NPCs for the rest of the series. After looking at the detailed pictures of the Executioners on this page, I think a strong argument exists in favor of the Executioners being female (or at least having womanly attributes). First, as the wiki notes, they have long dreadlocked black hair. Men, of course, can also have long hair, so this isn't evidence in itself. In the same vein, the "overweight" appearance of the armor makes the breastplate look like just that—breasts. However, what really made me think about this was the cameo on the Executioners' stomachs. Look at the above picture of the staggered Executioner in Central Yharnam. At first glance, it looks like a portrait of a hooded woman surrounded by a circular frame. However, given the recurring theme of pregnancy and childbirth in Bloodborne, another possible interpretation exists. Picture someone wearing a hoodie with a tight hood. It almost looks like they're being born, doesn't it? With their face poking out of the hoodie-womb? Look at the picture of the Executioner again. Notice the shape of the portrait woman's hood: how it starts at a point, opens up, and closes loosely at the bottom. Notice the effect of the "folds" surrounding the hood. TL;DR, the Executioner armor looks like a pregnant woman giving birth.

Ahhh, Alfonso. Little bitch for breakfast. Leaving a trail of pistachio shells wherever he walks.

We all know he just wants to go home and eat his rotisserie chicken.

But we can't let the gayest barber in town live.

Took me three tries over two game files to beat the one in Yharnam. For an utter newb to the soulsborne games, that means I'm getting better, right?

I didn't even have to stagger him, just had to use a couple of well-timed blood vials- he managed to grab me twice, and each time I had just used one.

Basic strat: Dodge, wait for an opening, and stay well above half health. You can farm the street walking guys for blood vials.

Helmet is incredibly reminiscent of Horace the Hushed's helm in DS3, probably both based on Bazuso from Berserk.

These guys are EXTREMELY weak to bolt. Buff your weapon with bolt paper or prepare a weapon infused with high bolt damage, then bait their running swing or jump attack. Dodge through them to their backside, then bash away. They should go down in about three R1's.

Wait, is it just me, or do these guys have similar armor to the attendants in Mensis? I wonder if maybe they were sentinels sent by Mensis to spy on the Healing Church... At first, I thought they WERE from the Healing Church, but their design simply doesn't match up with the Church's attire.

These guys pissed me off when I started playing and this guy and undead giant with 2 blades still do to this day and for the same reason.

                              Terrible, lingering hit boxes.

                              In a game where you can literally stand right on edge of boss attacks and avoid it;
Then these 2 enemies have hit boxes on one or two attacks that are just wonky and go completely against any dodging intuition a player might have from the playing rest of the game.

Running passed them to get to the next area is quite a gamble due to their ridiculous reach and that sweep attack. They're tough to stagger with your gun, and the only times I've managed it, I took damage from the swing anyway. Fighting them outright is hardly an option because they block everything and react too quickly for you to charge an R2 to break their guard.

All of that coupled with where they're placed makes for an annoying enemy. Being challenged, like fighting NPC Hunters, is fun. Trying to get out of three 15-foot radial axe swings while simultaneously avoiding at least two snipers is *****ing annoying.

I mean, their body structure, attacks, surprising agility, all seem to match with one another except the Vicars of the Cosmos can just output much more damage with a much larger health bar it seems. Not to mention, they both have an axe and cannon variant.

Even at level 60 they can still trounce you. Just barrel through your attacks and TROUNCE YOU! You cant even get behind them half the time cause they do that spinning and then if you run they just leap slam you!

I don't know exactly where I am but up this hill there was one by a treasure chest to the side. on the top of the hill near the building were a bunch of crazy women. As soon as I killed them the executioner ran quickly up the hill and stood right at the entrance of the building. I get up there and it just looks at me and doesn't interact. Bug?

Those seeking striking blood gems to up their charge attacks can find them off these guys. In particular I found my first striking blood gem off the executioner in central yharnam

Anyone got any information on the Bell-Ringing variants? Cannon holder's a ***** and so are the axe holders with their ranged attacks, and their holds. Luckily you can parry them both fairly easily when they do their horizontal swipe attacks.

                                          • Anonymous

The executioners just outside the Witch's Abode can teleport. http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--xGYp2Nxq--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_320/xkyybssvkmpnzst5htgb.gif The first one will teleport back up the hill behind you, the one on the other side of the path will teleport to the far right. I have had it happen a few times now, when I'm using them to farm vials.
