Combat Information

  • Attacking from the sides or behind is difficult as her turn speed is high and her attacks sweep very wide. It is, however, possible to get stuck between her two tails where you are relatively safe against attacks. Repetitive strategies are undermined by her wide move set and unpredictable nature.
  • Attacking her chest is a decent strategy, as her attacks are telegraphed more (some will even miss if you're too close to her). Learn how many hits you can get in before you should dodge away. She is also less likely to charge attack if you're close enough. The belly slam attack, which is more common should you focus her chest, is a great opportunity to put some damage into her.
  • Her laser beam attack is avoidable by running in a large circle around her.
  • Her head is the weak point in the fight and will take bonus damage, an effective strategy is to use the Cannon in the fight and shoot her head. Then she will drop down, allowing for a Visceral Attack. Immediately after the completion of the visceral attack, you can charge up an attack with a long weapon. She will not recover from the Visceral Attack in time and the full R2 will make her available to other Visceral. Alternatively, hit her head with Burial Blade charge attack.
  • If you do not have the Cannon you can still lure some of her attacks to lower the head and have a clear attack. However, this strategy is risky because sometimes she'll do a charge attack, with terrible consequences for your HP (and is difficult to dodge properly).
  • It is best to just dodge her attacks and stand behind her or to her side, then hit her. Repeat this procedure with a Bolt Paper imbued weapon and she will be down in no time.
  • Like most Kin, she is noticeably weak to Thrust damage. Works wonders when combined with Bolt Paper.

Moveset Description and Counter
Head Slam Slams head down in front of her if the player is at close range.
Grab Grabs the player and eats them inducing frenzy... this attack can be a KO 1-hit if the player health is less than 1000.
Tentacle Swing Swings either her right or left tentacle at the player .... can swing in a combo if the player is still close enough.
Charge At close, mid, or far range, she will perform a charge attack that does massive damage. Extremely difficult to dodge.
Flying Used to gain some distance from the player. May cause damage if close by when taking off or landing.
Flying Head Slam If the player is in the mid-range, then she will fly into the air a bit and do a head slam at the player. Causes high damage.
Body Slam Smashes whole body on the player.
Spit Blood Spits blood at the player causing damage and inducing frenzy.
A Call Beyond Summons a large number of arcane missiles that she then unleashes onto the player, causing enormous damage. Comes in three waves. Constant movement or dodging can avoid them.
Damage Aura Casts an aura around herself that makes the player take constant damage while at close range. This is cast when her HP approaches 50%.
The aura also damages her, though not quickly enough to matter much, unless she is already near-death. (possible bug?)

How to deal with her dangerous charge attack

She can charge at the player at any time at any range and most of the players get one shot killed or left barely alive especially in the chalice dungeons. She signals pretty clearly when she is about to charge at you but dodging it is extremely difficult. However, there are ways. The most important thing to know is that getting hit by her tentacles does the highest damage. Getting hit by her charging head or torso can left you alive with very little health.

  • If she charges when you are at close range there is very little to do but to stay still and take the hit from her head to avoid getting one-shotted. If you try to dodge or walk to her sides you almost always get hit by her tentacles.
  • If you are pretty far away from her and she charges just dodge straight away from her or slightly to your left so that her charge can't reach you.
  • The most difficult distance to deal with the charge is the medium range. However, the medium distance is one of the best places to be if you want to attack her. There are rare occasions when the player can dodge left or right to completely avoid the charge but spotting these situations is very difficult. However one of the safest strategies to try to dodge the charge is to learn how to identify the attack very early, walk straight away (south) from her with no target lock and just before her charging head touches you dodge roll southwest. The charge even tilts the camera slightly to one side and helps to spot the time to roll, though the player has to adjust the direction of the roll according to the camera angle so that player won't roll too much left (west). If done right player will roll to a place where he/she even dodges the tentacles barely. If however the player was too close or rolled too late he/she gets hit by Noodle-Face' head which most of the time will not one-shot kill.
  • If you are bad at rolling and have trouble dodging the charge attack at medium distance use a running tactic. Every time boss tries to melee attack in any way just run straight away to avoid it. If it is the charge attack turn left or right before the charging head catches you. This tactic suits for hit n' run if the attack is body slam or some other easily punishable attack instead.

Strategy 1 (Provoke Head Slam)

Simple fight, just cross over to brush the chest, provoking head slam attacks, keep towards the front, as close as possible, (touching), to avoid provoking the tentacle and laser attacks. High Physical Resist Armor, (Yahar'gul is fine), to mitigate the tentacle attacks. Rush Noodle-Face, and roll in, then move to the left, staying very close in, (touching). Touching the chest like this will provoke the head slam attack. Take a few swings, taking note of your Stamina. Cross over, (or not), but touch the chest, to provoke another head-slam attack. Go back to one of the sides, close in. When the head drops, take a few swings, repeat. When hit, just use a vial instead of attacking. The attack you have to worry about is the left arm/tentacle swinging around to the right around the body, which is not an issue if you move behind. When Noodle-Face starts doing anything out of this pattern, (like jumping around, spamming a cross over attack, etc), just hold your fire, and defend, waiting for the head slamming to start up again.

For pure bloodtinge builds, this strategy works well with Simon's Bowblade. Stand just outside of head slam range and charge transformed r2 for big damage. With this strategy you only have to worry about her charge (the probability of which can be lessened by weaving in and out of her range) and A Call Beyond (phase 2).

Strategy 2 (Endurance Battle)

Apart from all the above, I found my own way to kill her. It probably takes the longest, but it's the safest of tactics. Step one...Don't lock on to her. What you wanna do is stay a medium-range away from her (just out of reach of her tentacles) and circle her. At this range, you'll be at a range where a charged R2 from, let's say, Ludwig's Holy Blade in its transformed form (the great-sword), will always hit her when she head-slams..unless you ran a bit too far from her.

Soft-mention: it's not worth attacking her when she head-slams with her tentacles cause it's hard to hit any sort of R2 on her tentacles, or even head, without possibly retaining damage with getting in, then getting out. It's because she recharges herself fast when she does her head+tentacle slam. I often can only get a single R1 in cause I stay relatively far in order not to die (if you get hit with the tentacle+head-slam, it will either damage you for all your hp if all hits connect or outright kill you). For this phase of the fight, up until like...the 40-50% hp mark, I didn't use any vials. Besides maybe 1-3.

You basically wanna circle around her constantly (not locked on, as I said), and when she charges, that's when you have to dodge/roll in the direction you're running. I ran left, so I'd often dodge left or else fear getting ~half my hp rammed. When she head-slams (she has good differentiated indicators for when she charges or head-slams), that's when you start to walk forward...but not too far as to get hit by the head-slam. Remember, your weapon's range, especially for something like the transformed Ludwig's, which is pretty long on its own. If your weapon is at...Let's say...+6, like mine was..And if you have a decent 30 strength (to also use the cannon), this fight should be breezy with this strategy. A charged R2 will often do 900-1k damage at 30 str and whatever dex. Careful though. At under 50% hp, he gets more aggressive and gains some arcane moves after he 'buffs' up (this is a time to R2 him as well, by the way)..A meteor which he never used on me, and some mini-soul spears that you can dodge by literally just constantly running (you don't need to sprint). This part of the fight was when I used the most blood vials because I got a bit aggressive (you get kind of bloodthirsty once he gets to 30% hp). Also, wear the Yharnam Hunter's gear. It has the most total frenzy resistance (or just use the Deep Sea rune for +200 Frenzy resistance...Or both.)...I believe the aura around him causes frenzy if you're in it for too long. In any case, the aura also causes damage. So you don't wanna be in it for too long nevertheless. I used about 12 blood vials total cause I knew I'd kill her with this strategy. Just had to be patient, keep my hp high, and not over-commit stupidly.

You can also employ the use of the cannon at 30 Str and 13 Skill. (keep your bullets at max+5 via the Up-arrow on the DPAD). You do need to time it well as to not get hit by her as well as shooting her head. I only used the regular 2 cannon shots, but if you keep your bullets at +5, you'll be able to use more (Cannon takes 10 shots...you have 25 if you +5 yourself (20 normally), use cannon, then +5 yourself again..rinse and repeat...Although, I'm unsure if it will subtract from the +5 or the actual bullet count. In any case, you'll get at least 3 cannon shots to work with...each doing like ~600 damage to its head).

Strategy 3 (Pull Her to the Entrance)

Another option is to lure the boss back towards the narrow hallway by the fog doorway through which you entered the boss chamber. Pull her, then run back there, hugging what was the right side when you first came in (and faced the boss) but is now the left side (as you run back to it, away from the boss you just pulled). After she meanders over to you, she will charge you with her head. Whack it, should you so desire. Once she recovers from this move, your job is to consistently move clockwise, staying behind the boss and beating the living daylights out of her tails. I used lightning paper when she was at about 55%. Why 55%? At about 50%, the boss goes bananas. However, by using lightning at 55%, I was able to begin a combo with my threaded cane +9 that got it to about 40% and caused it to drop its head down. Then, I wailed on the head repeatedly. When it picked up its head and started doing stuff again, this head bashing had reduced its life to about 5%. Only then did it finally get its aura and laser beams ready. It was dead before the aura could affect me or the lasers could fire. This was on NG+ (2nd time through); I am level 157. I used the 15% to max stam., all dmg. reduction by 4%, the arcane dmg. reduction by 7% (which wound up being unnecessary), and stamina recovery speed up (the best of the covenant runes by far, in my opinion). It beat me about 75 times before I tried this technique; I killed it my second attempt using this strategy. The first time, I got it to about 10%, and the boss wised up and moved out of the hallway by the doorway and lasered me. Being in the narrow hallway, I had nowhere to dodge. The second attempt, I timed my use of lightning paper better to preclude this from happening. I died more to Noodle-Face than all other bosses combined, if that gives any solace to others.

Strategy 4 (Kirkhammer Strategy)

If you're using a strength build, get the Kirkhammer (Also known as the Hammer of God Killing) fortified as much as possible. Use every buff possible (Bolt/Fire paper, Empty Phantasm Shell, Bone Marrow Ash, etc.). Try to keep your health at max as much as possible, as some of her attacks, mainly the head slams and arcane barrages, can one shot you if she gets you on a counter. Taking the Clockwise Metamorphosis rune is helpful, as more health is always fun. Also, taking Great Lake and Lake for the physical defence helps out a lot as well, because the only non-physical attacks Noodle-Face has are easily dodged, and the Arcane Barrage will one shot you anyway.

The fight has two phases, but the strategy should be the same for both: stay to the boss' right side and make sure NOT to lock on with the camera. You'll be able to dodge every single one of her tentacle sweep attacks this way with a fair bit of good timing on your part, and at random times, she will perform the head slam attack. This is your chance to get a charged R2 off on her with your Kirkhammer (Or whatever lesser weapon you happen to be using), which, when I used it at level 65 and with 35 strength, caused about one sixth of her health bar in damage (Sorry, I don't remember the exact numbers). Stick with the Kirkhammer's hammer mode the whole time (Or whatever other transformed mode you have for your lesser weapon), as Ebrietas' recovery time on her tentacle sweeps is long enough to potentially get a charged R2 off if you stay on her right side and sometimes her back. While it does decreased damage when not used on her head, it will still deal a decent amount of damage. When Ebrietas is charging her constant AOE up, which occurs at around 50 percent HP, you can get another charged R2 attack on her head. If you pull it off, her health will be fairly low when the phase starts. Her attacks will be faster in the second phase but still, stick to her right side just as before. If your HP is getting low because of the AOE, you'll have plenty of time to pop a blood vial in between her tentacle sweeps. When she pauses and clenches up, she's about to cast her Arcane Barrage. The easiest way to avoid this is to just run to either your left or right, as dodging seems to be a bit...dodgy when trying to avoid this attack. Usually after this attack, you'll find yourself at medium range. She'll either use her blood spit attack or try to charge you at this point. If she charges you, DO NOT DODGE (Sorry Piccolo). Instead, run to the left or the right. Dodging this attack is incredibly tricky, and you'll almost always end up getting hit by one of her tentacles as soon as you come out of it. If she uses the blood spit attack, run as fast as you can back to the original position, avoiding the slow blood spit attacks of course. You'll have a moment to pop a vial or get in another hit once there. The one thing that can really be annoying about the positioning here is when Ebrietas uses her jump/float thing, she has a chance to hit you when she moves. If she does, you'll lose a bit of health, but more importantly, you'll miss the chance to get an easy head attack on her when she lands. Another benefit of being in this position during the fight is that she won't use some of her attacks on you, such as the charge or the grab. Even if you don't have the Godhammer, staying to her right side will make the fight significantly easier.

Strategy 5 (Depth 5 Chalice Dungeon strategy)

Do not use target lock. Use a heavy-hitting weapon and concentrate only on hitting her head. Attack after her head or body slams and the single right hand smash that makes her lower her head a little too. Dodge all the other attacks and do not attack even when she merely jumps. Kirkhammers moveset is the best since R1 attack swings high and hits her head often even without target lock. Keep aggressively medium distance and stay directly in front of her. Staying too far away triggers the dangerous charging attack too often and staying too close makes dodging hard. Remember always to have plenty of open space behind you that you can dodge her charge attack and she won't squeeze you between her and a wall. When she is close to 50% health use a bolt/fire paper and when she is about to enter her second phase smack her head to hopefully stagger her, interrupt her long Aura attack and get a visceral attack. Right after the visceral attack take two steps forward and hold R2 for hammers charge attack which often gets a free and heavy hit on her head.

Strategy 6 (Ludwig's Holy Blade - L2+R2+Visceral)

For this strategy, a Beast Blood Pellet is what I found most effective for a 30 Strength and 20 Skill set with a +9 Holy Blade. Use it as you approach, dodge into her first sweep, back up, and L2 her in the face. From here, back up as she comes back from the lesser stagger, and dodge left for her head slam. Charge and hit her with an R2. Repeat Lesser stagger using L2 when she recovers from R2. Visceral when able. Rinse and Repeat. Due to her AI, I was able to kill her without her leaving her initial combat stage. You may be able to stack a Flame/Bolt paper to do so more quickly.

Strategy 7 (Rakuyo w/Bolt Paper)

I actually found this to be the easiest and fastest way to win this boss fight. She is extremely weak to thrust and bolt damage. This means the Rakuyo can melt her health bar away in seconds. The transformed R2 thrust attack can be spammed over and over due to the low the stamina cost. Summing the Old Hunter Damian will help distract her for most of the fight. All you need to do is run behind her and fit into the nice snug space in between her... butt tentacles? Use Bolt Paper then hit R2 and only stop to either heal or run back behind her should she jump out the way. The majority of her attacks will completely miss you. Including the all powerful A Call Beyond magic attack. Mainly you need to watch out for the backhand or AoE attack. Even a decently upgraded Rakuyo will deal massive damage despite not being her weak point (her head). If you get a visceral you'll most likely miss the chance but a complete combo of the R2 attacks actually will do almost as much damage. I've used this strategy a couple of times now and the fight is always over before the Bolt Paper even runs out. Fire works but the damage is slightly less than Bolt.

Note & Trivia

  • For some odd reason when she charges she may end up instantly killing you, (this is probably due to both her arm and tentacle hitting you getting double the damage) if you have a problem with this your best possibility is to stand still and get hit by her head. This sounds backwards but it's worked for me (I was in the Isz chalice dungeon with only 18 Vit she kept instant killing me but when I got directly hit by her head I survived with 20% health left).
  • On the second attempt and onwards she will not be idle until attacked, but it is possible to sneak up on her, like with most normal mobs.
  • The elevator bug (that left Ebrietas lift and elevator inoperable ) was fixed in Patch 1.03.
  • The appearance of Ebrietas is heavily based on Cthulhu from H.P. Lovecraft's novel The Call of Cthulhu.
  • In the oldest trailer of Bloodborne (), Ebrietas was originally a boss for the Grand Cathedral, she was replaced by Vicar Amelia.
  • Despite the "Make Contact" -gesture been close by Ebrietas does NOT give you anything if you use it on her before making her hostile
  • The damaging aura she summons during phase 2 consists of tiny stars which rotate around her like fireflies. Oddly enough, this aura also damages her and can even kill her if you wait long enough.
  • When she uses A Call Beyond she summons from the cosmos directly. The Living Failures do something very similar.
  • She has winking False Eyes where her wings connect and the black tentacles along her neck could be a kind of hair.
  • Despite her title as "Daughter of the Cosmos" she does not, in fact, have said cosmos in her mouth as some have claimed. It is instead a round mass of flesh with dozens of black eyes set in it. This mass does somewhat resemble a nebula full of stars at a glance though.
  • Ebrietas is the Latin word for "drunkenness", resulting in the translated name "Drunkenness, Daughter of the Cosmos"

I got a glitch where I hit the boss with Ludwig's two handed strong attack so hard that I got sucked into the anus of the boss and in there I could not move, nor take damage but could damage the boss. I don't know whether this is repeatable, but sure was funny af.

      • Anonymous

Not too bad a fight. Won 2nd try with a +7 Beast Claw & Bolt Papers at BL70. Just gotta get in behind her and start tearing it up

        • Anonymous

If you're running a bloodtinge build then this is a fairly easy boss, altar of despair and Isz chalice. With 50 bloodtinge and upgraded Evelyn and bone marrow ash I had trouble at all. Both fights were over pretty quickly.

          • Anonymous

It's so funny that people complain a lot about dark souls 2 hitboxes and then give a total pass to this boss, her hitboxes are awful and make no sense

            • Maybe this comment gets a lot of dislikes, but I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to make myself big in any way.

But I'm very impressed by the number of people who have had great difficulty with this boss. In my first attempt, using Rifle Spear +10 with charge attacks (charged R2), this boss was easier than normal enemies in the game. I didn't even know that Ebrietas could use 'a call beyond' because I didn't even see her use this attack.

This shows how relative Bloodborne can be in relation to player builds.

                F*ck you, game.

I don't want to fight her but it's the only way to obtain Isz Chalice.

                F*ck you definitely.

I wasted lots of blood vials and bolt paper and I still heaven't found a consistent way to kill her. She always manages to surprise me with the worst attack possible at the worst moment.

I do a run of bloodborne every so often and this time I could not be ****ed with the chalice dungeons, so I decided to just leave poor Ebrietas to mourn that fossilised spider, at least that’s what I always thought. Feel sad for this one in a way.

The Great Isz Chalice mentions it was used by the choir to have audience with her. I wonder if what you fight in the cathedral is merely a projection of her and the fight in the chalice dungeon is the real her. Or perhaps before she dies at the cathedral she uses the chalice to flee. I just always found it weird that there are two of her, root dungeons excluded.

Seeing certain other web pages I was kinda excepting here to have "seven vaginas...imagine" comments. I'm glad I was wrong.

Pretty easy boss, killed her 1st try. Just summon the npc and let him take most of the attention until the boss does the head slam thing and then you go and attack his head (either it was ez or my build is broken)

                          • Anonymous

Defeated her overleved (BL 100) and with a +9 tonitrus. It felt like I missed a great part of the game. The whole upper cathedral felt boring. I might do this section of the game earlier in a different character

I know how to beat her, learnt her moves, but still die loads before actually defeating her. Such a random fight. Each attempt always slightly different.

I wonder what she will be like in the Re-Make / Re-Master? Will they adjust anything (charge attack) or leave as-is? Looking forward to trying it, if it ever happens :)

Did this boss incredibly overleveled (BL 140) and was disappointed how easy it was, just took a couple shots to the head to stagger at that point.

                                  • Anonymous

Dont lock on, stay very close to her, basically touching her chest but kinda to your right side. There is a sweet spot where she has troubles hitting you. If you keep spamming light attack she will rarely do anything dangerous. For the second part of fight where she becomes more dangerous use a bolt paper to increase your dmg and take her down quickly. Good luck hunters.

Beat the normal one in my first try but the chalice dungeon version took over 19. That ****ing charge she does is busted.

I hope every last one of you that say “don’t lock on” step on the sharpest Lego. Lock on is the only viable thing against this actual moving bed of chaos. C tier boss at best for me boys and girls.

In my opinion this is the worst boss in the main game because of how much damage she does and her charge do not go here if you have low vigor

Even though Kos/m grants us eyes,
Even though Formless Odeon succours the meek,
Even though Rom guards us from the Paleblood Moon,
Ebrietas helps us directly by way of Her Augur, an ever-present weapon against the Beasts, if you can find it.
I see no reason to fight her, the White Dragoness 'neath the Cathedral Ward, no matter how sweet Her blood may be...

Tbh the hardest part of this fight for me was knowing when she cast a call beyond because she's always making that annoying noise. I had to read body language and even then if you notice too late your prob toast. It's best when you suspect to just run in a half circle in front of her or just run around her as this guide states. It's also a nightmare fighting the camera on this but still possible to fight her, and staying behind and to the side isn't as hard as it seems. Healing through all the aoe spam is a bit rough but just involves decent timings if needed.

She is definitely the hardest main game boss. When I first beat her a while ago (after like 15 tries) and I took a moment to breathe and it turned out I got an std from the fight and i died of frenzy like 6 seconds later. I guess she got to take me with her.

Fun fact, Ebrietas is actually the surname of Lithuanian cameraman who's the real boss in this battle. Want to fight on hard mode? Use lock on, Ebrietas is going to go bananas with camerawork every other attack.

I heard she was a difficult fight before I fought her so I was kinda nervous when I got to her, but despite dying a dozen times I really did not find her that difficult. I was confused, but now reading the attacks she has I see somehow I got lucky since she did not use a couple of them at all in every fight

To easily beat the Great Isz Chalice version, have a +10 Saw Cleaver with your best gems and a bolt paper. Executioners Garb. Old Hunter’s Bone. Tiny tonitris. Lock on and bait its head slam. Attack the head. Use Old Hunters Bone when it does its arcane attack. In 2nd phase, use transformed Saw Cleaver for more damage and better reach. Can usually get off 2 hits with it. Tiny tonitiris if you can’t get close enough.

                                                      • Anonymous

Staying between her tails and moving with her to stay behind her the whole time worked for me to first try her. Just stay behind where it's safe and hardly take any damage, I know the head may be a weak spot but sometimes avoiding damage is (often) more important and staying behind her works great for that, I only used a couple vials the whole fight

                                                        • Anonymous

For me what worked first try and had me hardly take any damage was staying between her tails, turn as she turns to stay behind the whole time and using charged r2s (hunter axe) into the back half of her body seemed quite safe and the fight was over in a minute or two.

I know the head is the weak spot but sometimes dealing less damage in exchange for being in a safer spot and taking less damage is a good approach

Plus you can summon help near the entrance to the boss room if you want

I walked in between the tails(legs?) And just R2 poked with Ludwig's sword until she died, didn't get hit once.

Was way overpowered for this fight 1st tried in 50 seconds lol. 3 cursed gems on a +10 pizza wheel. good times.

Idk if anyone said this already but do NOT lock on to her. Stay hugged to her right side (or left if that suits you). Keep her rotating trying to hit you. Wail on her and heal as needed.

She's strong against blunt, weak against thrust. I used the threaded cane +9 in cane form. Bolt paper. I did not stop attacking unless I needed health or stamina, or to sprint during her light beam.

I wore the choir set. High arcane defense for her bullshit light beam ****. Great lake + anit-clockwise + clockwise runes. Simple stuff.

                                                                Fear the old blood.

I beat her easy with Big and Little Tont. Before the fight make sure to summon and also get 24 QS bullets and your little Tont ready. Make sure to stick to her side, but closer to her tail than front. 2 Charged R2 attacks buffed with L1 when she is looking at your summon. Dodge out when she targets you instead of the summon. Push her to 1/2 health and phase 2. At phase 2, let your summon pull and then back off a bit and spam little Tont 4 times in a row, which will burn 20%+. Then dance in and L1 enhanced lights attacks and she should be dead.

                                                                  • Anonymous

I beat Ebrietas on my first playthrough under a minute. I was scared sh*tless whan approaching the boss, and in the end I annihilate her. Not by myself however. There is in fact... a SUMMONING SIGN. You can actually summon an NPC for this fight! And it's not like he is hidden - he is just in front of the boss room! Yeah, he will not enter the door unless You trigger the fight (it's like he now he is f*cked), but when he do it is piece of cake. He will instantly attack Ebrietas, so she is gonna go after him. You need to roll out beside her and attack with full force. If she turn to You, defend and wait for NPC to again caught her attention. You can roll between her two... tails? Tentacles? It is fairly safe out there so You can unleash the full combo and heal when You need. Try to have a full health 'cos she can hurt You badly (at the end she almost unleashed one-hit kill on me, so I roll-out and heal to maximum). And that's it. Summon NPC, let her concentrate on NPC, get behind and attack like a maniac. Didn't even see most of her attack. Or phases.

I'm curious though why the wiki doesn't say anything about the NPC. Summon sign is in plain sight after all. Maybe You need an insane amount of Insight? I had like 80 when I beat Celestial Emissary so maybe that's the catch? I was eating everything that gives You Insight (for fun, 'cos I've read that some creatures or situation are only visible when You get lot of Insight). Maybe for the most of the players the summon sign did'nt appear becouse they did'nt have right amount? Can someone verify that?

                                                                    • Anonymous

whats up with all the insta kill grabs im 32 vit and im still getting fu##ed up by every boss and even some normal enimies

                                                                      • Anonymous

I've found Bloodborne to be probably the easiest of the series (That said, it's also my favorite of them all). I'm up to Mergo's Wet Nurse and so far I've beaten every boss on either the 1st or 2nd try (except for Blood Starved Beast, who took 5 attempts) and I've never summoned. But Ebrietas was an absolute brick wall for me. After somewhere around 25 attempts all I had to show for it was a ton of wasted vials and bolt paper. 3 times I had gotten her down to about 5% health and then she 1 shotted me. Incredible rage. I don't know if I'm just not good at this particular boss or if it's poorly designed. It felt impossible to get any consistent results. Dodging her tentacles is difficult because they just fly all over the place. All of her attacks feel difficult to time dodges. There's very few safe zones because of how fast she rotates and flails around. Her 2nd phase causes multiple attacks to be 1 hit kills no matter what.

Most bosses in the series feel like they can be learned and like you are able to improve with every attempt. Not Ebrietas. It was a **** show every time and I never got better at it. And that ****ing charge attack, oh my god. Complete bullshit. Incredibly difficult to avoid, and even at lvl 79, would usually 1 shot me from full health (31 VIT) I absolutely hate summoning because it feels like cheating to me. Like I'm not winning on my own merits. But I just couldn't deal with her anymore. The very first time I summoned Damian, I quickly beat her with almost no trouble. It was night and day. Summoning him is like an easy win button. Which is why I never summon in any Soulsbourne unless I just can't do it anymore. I'm ashamed of summoning, but also just don't care because it's finally over. I have yet to start The Old Hunters, but so far, Ebrietas is by far the most difficult, most unfair feeling and is easily my least favorite boss.

                                                                        • Anonymous

It took my like 20 tries to kill her on my first playthrough, now I’m on NG+, and I killed her first try by using the transformed Rakuyo R2s with bolt paper, it’s definitely the easiest method for this boss

                                                                          • Anonymous

I haven't seen anyone say this here so I'll say it, somehow I managed to get her to jump behind the fallen pillar directly to the right of the entrance, when this happened, she couldn't move away from there, charges got stuck on the pillar and as long as I was cautious, she couldn't hit me, I don't know how reliable this is, but when preformed, it is essentially an instant win

                                                                            • Anonymous

Destroyed it (with bolt) by sticking to the right middle portion of its fleshy body/tail and attacking that area as much as I can, running right back to it should it reposition or knock me out, and then just making an anti-clockwise run around it when it does that blue laser attack from the sky.
Went from being the toughest boss for me to beating it on my second try no problem haha, didn't even mean to cheese it.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

In my first playthrough I got my rear handed to me more times than I could count.
Then one day I got mad and clapped her so hard she had to retreat to a depth 5 dungeon.
And then my Share Play for some reason didn't record like the other 50% of times.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I'm at the point where i can finish the game by beating Gherman and Moon Presence in my first playthrough. Have also beaten every main game boss outside of the final bosses. I just beat her and immediatly afterwards, my thoughts were "I'm glad it's over, and i'm honestly not doing that again in NG+".
I haven't done the DLC yet (only heard good things about it's bosses though), but this was the worst boss of Bloodborne in my opinion. It has great music, and Ebrietas herself has a cool design and lore, but the fight itself was just a big mess for me. Even after beating her (with half health and 0 vials) after 5 tries, i felt like i didn't even learn the boss and i still don't know how to actually avoid half of her attacks. The hitboxes felt pretty weird on some attacks (the horizontal blood spewing and charge mainly), and in the end, i just beat her by spamming R1 at her sides, tanking damage, playing safe until she opened up her sides again, rinse and repeat, breaking two parts in a row, then staggering and visceral attacking her, and in phase 2 i just said "Whatever" and just once again spammed R1 and basically just tanked damage.
I guess she's supposed to be a superboss but she was just not enjoyable for me, and it's the only boss i just didn't like.
I'm surely missing something in that fight, feel free to point it out if you know.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Ol' Bacterial Vaginosis Face... the most obscenely suggestive-looking boss in the Souls-borne series.

Also, I like to blast her with Augur Of Ebrietas over and over again so I can yell "STOP HITTING YOURSELF. STOP HITTING YOURSELF.
STOP HITTING YOURSELF" at the screen. It's a simple life.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

My method is always to target her head specifically so you can open her up for the visceral attack—BUT! Don't go for it as soon as she bows her head. When you hear the cue, start charging an R2. It won't knock her out of the animation or anything, so it deals a sizeable chunk of extra damage, especially with a thrust, bolt, or kinhunter weapon (better yet, a combination). Stop for a moment to let your hunter go back to idle (step forward to quicken the cooldown), THEN press R1 for the visceral.

Immediately AFTER landing the visceral, keep an eye for if her health drops below 50%; she'll invariably cast her damaging aura, so the best thing to do is charge R2 yet again since you'll be doing close to double damage on her head, maybe more. This can very easily bring her down to 25% health or lower, and if you have a weapon with a follow-up to the charge attack, you can combo it even further. This way, you can seriously minimize the time spent fighting her in phase 2, potentially avoiding it altogether with high enough scaling and stats, particularly in the chalice dungeon.

The absolute best weapon for fighting her imo is the Church Pick infused purely with bolt damage in tricked state. Almost all of its attacks count as thrust damage, including the charge attacks, boasting good reach both in front and vertically, with better speed than something weightier like LHB. (That is if you're going for a fair fight, otherwise Whirli is best for cheesing lmao)

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Screw it, I'll toss in my interpretation even if it sounds dumb to everyone else.

Ebrietas is the culmination of the Healing Church's attempts to reconvene with Kos. Though she was "discovered" in the tomb by Byrgenwerth scholars, there was no way to bring her to the surface except by recreating her. Hence, everything in the tomb is actually a vague notion, only revealed by imbibing the concoctions used for the chalice rituals (basically, drugs, which sounds funny, but was legitimately a thing people were doing in the Victorian era, because of course they were).

The method of creating her required two things: (1) a successful emissary of the Great Ones, perfected by infusing a patient's blood with liquid god damn mercury (drugs, remember?); (2) a Kos parasite. This is why we find, obviously, the Celestial Emissaries, the successful candidates from the Research Hall experiments, as well as the Brainsuckers, in whose sutured noggins we find a slug-like thibg that I'm just going to call a mature Kos Parasite. There, now the idea is in YOUR head.

So, next step is to combine the two—but that's not quite all. Ebrietas is a saintly matriarch. Surely not just anyone can become the embodiment of the Church's loft scientology. They need a candidate worthy of the name—so who better than Saint Adeline? Sure, our interactions with her lead to a completely different fate, but we know we can't actually alter history through a nightmare. So instead of becoming an exhaulted, worthless sack of brains on the floor, Adeline and her gentle blood were bestowed the catalysts with which to grant her full perception of the truth.

The purpose, as I mentioned, was to try and reconvene with Kos at the Fishing Hamlet. This is why the Kos parasites were so crucial. You see, a parasite isn't much different than a child—er, wait... To the parasites, Kos was their whole world, their mother, even if they did not share "genetics" (I kind of doubt Great Ones evolve through any Darwinian capacity, but I'll use genetics for lack of better term). She was their surrogate mother. Thus, we find Ebrietas, "Daughter of the Cosmos," bowed at the Altar of Despair before an altar of Rom, a Great One known for its ability to reverse time. (Kind of like a... like a ROM chip. Booting up a computer. Huh.) She prays in an untenable depression to be reunited with her false mother, Kos, as was her intended purpose.

Aaand it still didn't work. So she waits. Then we show up and kill her ass to hell and it rocks. Because it turns out, even if they find Kos, it won't change anything. Beasts will still roam, people will still die, there's no curing egotism with any manner of blood.

                                                                                            Happy hunting.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

In my opinion Ebrietas is the worst boss in terms of design, mostly because her move set, size, and behavior don't work well with how the camera controls, and that one charge attack too. My favorite boss in the game is Ludwig, for him the camera works much better, mostly because he distances quickly and lunges in to attack, and in second form when he's tall he becomes easier to sidestep without getting stuck. He has a lot of powerful attacks like his jump, but a spamming dodge has a chance to work, and there are clues like the blood dripping for the high jump to let you learn the timing. But with Ebrietas she gets closer and closer till she's practically on top of you, and the camera makes it hard to see her telegraphing attacks when she gets that close (especially which of the two head slams is coming). Her charge is also super unintuitive, I just noticed today while fighting her that her body does less damage than trying to dodge left or right.

I've played through this game allot, got all the achievements, played a couple dozen characters with a bunch of different builds, but Ebrietas is annoying without being rewarding to learn, because the optimal strategy is just to cheese it, summon the old hunter, and sit behind her spamming R2 to avoid the charge attack. But in doing so you miss out on seeing most of her moveset basically making the fight pointless.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I have a theory on the Alter of Despair.

I wonder if it really is INDEED Rom and/or her husk which is left to rot where her mind transcended into its own pocket dream universe.

When she was once human, I wonder if Rom was once a medium used by the Choir to communicate with Ebrietus and gain insight.

I’m also going to guess their was something wrong with Rom, like she had some form of autism which allowed her to communicate with the great one without any ill effects, hence where the Vacuous part comes in.

During her time spent with the great one, she gained so much insight she ascended into a Kin but something went wrong and she died as a result.

Ebreitus now mourns Rom, her one and only source of companionship and even a friend.

                                                                                                Anyway, that’s my guess.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Just dodged into her sweeping attacks and kept hacking away, landed two staggered viscerals and she didn’t get to use a single arcane attack on me.
Only noticed the aura because I’d backed up to use a sedative.
I think I burned through two or three bolt papers cos I wasn’t aggressive right away.
Feel like I missed something not seeing any of the crazy cosmic stuff. All I could see the whole fight was a bunch of tentacles XD

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

A real easy (but casual) way to kill this boss is to grab the summon outside the boss door and have him distract her while you use charged R2's at her back with a decent thrusting weapon like Ludwig's Holy Sword. Legit took me less than 3 minutes at BL 61.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Uhhhhhhhhhh, this boss was super easy. All I did was summon 5 phantom hunters and had a +10 rakuyo at bl 254 on NG. Seriously, you guys gotta learn how to game like me.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

The rakuyo strategy above also works with the beasthunter saif (which is way less of a ***** to get) with uncharged r2 spam(thrust damage) or simply r1 spam. Didnt need summons or bolt paper but they probably help even more

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

Repeat R2 attack with Ludwig's Holy Blade +9. By the time Damien dies, she should have 1 or 2 hits left. If you fall out of between the tails or get hit, heal and sidestep left between the tails again.

                                                                                                            Killed her first try.

                                                                                                                • Anonymous
